Here’s what we can do if our Apple Pencil isn’t charging properly

Apple, charging, Heres, Isnt, Pencil, properly

Charging the Apple Pencil is really easy. Especially in the second-generation Apple Pencil, because you just lay it on top of the iPad and that’s it. Ready until, for some strange reason, we see that our pencil is not charging as it should. That’s what we can do about it.

Six resources to ensure a good charge

Let’s start by saying that it’s really rare for an Apple Pencil to not charge properly. In the end, we are talking about a fairly simple system, although with its hidden complexities, of course. Fortunately, we have several resources when it comes to making sure our pencil has a full battery to continue drawing or writing. Those are.

  1. Restart our iPad: First basic resource. When faced with an Apple Pencil that won’t charge, whether first or second generation, a restart of the iPad resolves 99% of errors.
  2. Charge our iPad: Another variable to consider. If our iPad has too little battery, it won’t charge the Apple Pencil. Let’s make sure we have at least 10% battery.
  3. Ensure a good connection: The connection between Apple Pencil and iPad may not be correct. In the case of the second generation pencil, it can sometimes be fixed (with much less force) off-center, much more downwards. Something similar can happen with the first-generation Apple Pencil, which, if resting on a soft surface, can bend the connection and stop charging. Something as simple as completely removing the pencil and putting it back in is a good idea.
  4. Wait at least 15 minutes: Sometimes the Apple Pencil can discharge well below what is 0%. This happens when it hasn’t been used for a long time. In these cases, the pen does not appear to charge when connected. It actually does, but we don’t see the result until several minutes pass. So, in case of doubt, it is good to wait at least a quarter of an hour.
  5. Unpair and re-pair Apple Pencil: One of the last resources. To unpair our Apple Pencil from the iPad, just enter Bluetooth in Settingstap the “i” next to Apple Pencil, then tap forget this device. Then, after restarting the iPad, we place the Apple Pencil on the side of the iPad or plug it into it to re-pair and charge it.
  6. Update our iPad: Last resort. Update our iPad in the app Settingsin General and Software update and, after that, try charging our pencil again.

If the Apple Pencil still won’t charge here, there are several things we can do. One of the most important is try charging it with another iPad or with the charging cable in the case of the first generation stylus. Finally, we only have to take it to an Apple Store so that they can verify that there is no hardware defect.

Drawing with Apple Pencil on iPad Pro (2020): Art Productivity

Admittedly, it’s rare that our Apple Pencil doesn’t charge properly because, as we started by saying, it’s a pretty simple process. Fortunately, if this is the case, we have several resources at our disposal.
