When we saw the iPhone 15 Pro arrive, we understood something important about materials. Thanks to the fact that titanium is now used for the phone’s finishes, Apple has produced the lightest professional range iPhone in history. Moral: materials matter. A lot.
And that is why it is worth paying attention to the materials that Apple has used for its Vision Pro, since it is a product that marks the beginning of the era of spatial computing. Apple revealed these documents in their support documentation, and they’ve certainly thought of everything.
From polyester to aluminum that we already know
The official list of documents released by Apple is as follows, and it dwarfs the list of documents for any other device from the company:
- For the screens Aluminum, glass, polyester, nylon and polycarbonate were used.
- For the light seals Polyester, nylon yarn, thermoplastic elastomer, polyester polycarbonate and stainless steel were used.
- For the joint protectors Nylon-coated polyurethane foam and thermoplastic elastomer were used.
- For the speakers Fluorine elastomer, stainless steel and aluminum were used.
- For the battery and power cord Aluminum, polyester and stainless steel were used.
- For the Solo Knit strap and adjustment dial stainless steel, polyester thread and spandex.
- For the Correa Double Buckle polyester thread was used and spandex.
Apple claims that all materials used in the Vision Pro have undergone “thousands” of tests, during which they have been verified for strength or toxicology. In addition, more than a thousand prototypes were tested and certified dermatologists were consulted on the validity of the materials to come into contact with our face.
However, Apple recommends that we consult our doctor in case Vision Pro materials cause any type of irritation to our skin. The company assures that this may occur in a “small number” of users, and that it may mainly be due to allergies or excessive exposure to things like soap or our own sweat.
How to clean Apple Vision Pro
With such diverse materials, it’s only fitting that Apple dedicates an entire document on its support site to giving us tips on how to clean the device. It simply boils down to: no alcohol, no bleach, and no substances that may be abrasive. A cloth lightly dampened with water is ideal..
For fabric parts that may become dirty over time, Apple recommends separating them from the Vision Pro and immersing them in a container containing half a liter of hot water and to which we added 25 ml of unscented soap
We will see the accumulation of dirt over time: we are still in the early days of the Vision Pro’s life and so it is too early to know if they are very prone to getting dirty. And this will of course depend on how long we use them per day.
