If you have an Android TV at home, one of the apps you have installed might be Kodi. The popular client for accessing media files both locally and by streaming offers a great versatility and customization ability and a good example of this are the multiple skins we can use.
With these layers, you can give it a radically different look than what it offers as soon as you put it on. It is a simple process, but one that many people ignore and that is why we are going to see the steps needed to change the appearance of our player and by the way, find some of the more interesting models.
How to install themes on Kodi
And is this customize Kodi giving it a new look it’s very easy. We won’t need any external apps or additional file downloads, as Kodi itself is the one that offers all the necessary repositories. In fact, modifying the design of Kodi is something that we can do with just a few clicks.
We only have to enter Kodi on our TV. We assume we have the interface that comes original, so what we need to do is look for the icon of the “Settings”, a cogwheel that is usually located at the top of the screen.
Once inside, we look for the option “Interface” and when the new window opens we have to find the section “Skins”.
As we do not have one, we must, we must download it and for that we must click on “Have more”. The installation process begins and, if necessary, also the add-ons that it needs to run. Sometimes it may take longer depending on the speed of our TV or network.
In that case we used those offered by Kodi among its repositories, although it is also possible to install them from a local source if we have models downloaded. The list is more or less long and it is there that we must choose the one that we like the most. Here are the summarized steps in list mode:
- Open Kodi and enter it “Settings” by pressing the gear icon.
- Find option “Interface” and within it the section “Skins”.
- Click on “Skin” and then in “Have more” to select and download the skin that interests us.
And at this point, we’re going to see a few examples of Skins, although the variety is huge and each user should determine which theme best suits their tastes and needs.
At this point, after several tests, you may end up with a collection of skins that you don’t need and want to uninstall. Something that is very easy and that you can do by going on the road “Settings> Additional modules” and in the section “Mis Addons” selection “Appearance” and then in “Skin” you can delete the one you don’t want.
And nothing better than leading by example, and so that you can see the drastic UI changes you can get by changing the skin used in Kodi, I’ve picked out some of the ones that I consider the most interesting. There are a lot more, and you can even install them from external sources. Besides, all have a great capacity for customization, so it’s about picking the one we like the most and starting to investigate among all of its options.
Aeon Nox
We are undoubtedly before one of the best skins you can find on Kodi. Considering its low weight, it does not require powerful hardware to operate, which makes it ideal for a large number of models. In addition, the interface is very visual and attractive, ideal for televisions and large screens.
Aeon Tajo
It’s not as light as the previous one, in fact in models with just hardware we can see a little lag (you can always turn off the music playing in the background). But at the same time, it should be emphasized that is one of those that offers a more attractive interface due to the minimalism of its design.
App TV
As the name suggests, this interface imitates the one offered by the famous Apple decoder. With icons known to everyone, it is light in weight and therefore not too much of a problem for it to work on almost any TV.
Arctic: Zephyr
Artic: Zephyr is another development that bet on minimalism and many may remember another skin like Horizon. Based on shortcuts that appear at the bottom of the screen, the rest is taken up by thumbnails that provide access to all content.
Bello 8
In this skin the design changes and we abandon the horizontal lines of shortcuts to find ourselves a vertical sidebar which offers the possibility of accessing all sections. It’s a pretty clean interface that I didn’t notice pulling too many resources either.
Embuary
Another topic we can find: Embuary it offers an aesthetic pleasing to the eye and at the same time is light, without overloading the operation of the system. On the main screen we will see access to our files and, in tabular form, movies about to be released. The interface is accessible and offers an affordable learning curve for all users.
Eminence
At first glance, It looks like we are in front of a TV from LG or Samsung. A skin with a design completely different from the rest that groups all the information in the lower area of the screen in a bar distributed over the entire width. To complete the visual aspect, it offers detailed information about the time and calendar.
Fire tv
Although by name it seems, this design does not simulate that of the interface from the famous Amazon family of devices. It allows the download of the covers of each film, disc, TV series … as well as any information related to the current multimedia file.
Metropolis
Metropolis is an interface with easy-to-read text and icons which aims to provide as much information as possible. It has a column on the left with all the menus and in the lower area it offers information related to what we are going to see. A radical change of conception that does not make it a
Transparent
Last on the list but not the least interesting for that and in fact my favorite. This design is one of the most elegant and Didn’t notice that it makes the transitions slow. Another bet on the horizontal shortcut bar with a center of the screen occupied by all the information boxes.
