If you have just updated iOS 18.4.1 This week, you may have noticed that Safari on your iPhone or iPad has started to display a list of your recent search requests. The functionality was added in iOS 18.4 and iPados 18.4, in order to make it fast and easy to seek something (a current event).
Even if your research history was still only a few taps, Apple has changed the way it behaves, choosing to display your recent research each time you use the search bar. If you cannot find it useful or if you worry about confidentiality, here is how to deactivate this functionality.
How to deactivate the recent Safari search list
When you look at the recent search list, you will see a small “Claire All” label at the top right. You can press this to erase the list, but that will not prevent new research from appearing in the future.
To fully deactivate this feature, follow these steps:
- Open the parameters.
- Scroll down and select Applications.
- Select Safari.
- Deactivate the rocking for Show recent searches.

Of course, this will only deactivate the list of your recent research, but will not prevent Safari from saving your story. If you want to prevent research from saving, you will want to open a private navigation window (press the Tabs button in the toolbar, then slide to the Private section).
Finally, to delete the history of your existing browser, open Settings> Applications> Safari and scroll to the historic and website data section. Select Erase the website and website data, then select the option for the distance to which you want to delete.
