Achievement badges are a fun thing. You know they’re just a little bit of visual flair, they don’t even make anything, and yet, for some reason, you just have to collect them. Achievements are great motivators, and the achievement badges for activity tracking on the Apple Watch have inspired many users to exercise more.
If you want to maximize your badge count, you’ll want to research as many activity achievements as possible. Most are available year-round, but there are also limited-time special events to grab. Here is a list of all activity achievements for the Apple Watch and how to unlock them.
Updated 01/17/23: There are three new badge events coming up. Lunar New Year (the Year of the Rabbit) begins on January 22 and February is Black History Month. For Home Month, there is an activity you can do on February 14.
Standard realizations
Most achievements can be earned all year round. If you open the Activity app on your iPhone, then go to the Achievements tab, you will see some of them listed before you even earn them (in which case they will be represented by a gray outline).
However, some achievements are not displayed until you earn them. Past and future monthly challenges, for example, will not appear, nor will all the different individual workouts.
Here is a list of all the standard badges you can get.
First [exercise] Coaching
The first time you perform a new exercise for at least 5 minutes, you will receive an achievement badge. Every type of workout that doesn’t fall under the “Other” category is eligible for this badge: from walking and yoga to HIIT, hiking and more.
Activities with indoor and outdoor variations, such as cycling and walking, are grouped together; you can do either activity to get the badge and can only get it once.
[exercise] Workout recording
Each time you beat your previous record for calories burned in any of the exercises listed above, you earn this badge.
There is a caveat: you must first complete five such workouts. If you want to play with the system, make sure your first four workouts of each type are short and easy, so it won’t take much effort to beat them.
7-week workout
Simply complete a workout of at least 15 minutes every day of the week. Note that the week is Monday through Sunday, and you need to do one workout on each of those days (you can’t just do seven days in a row). If you start walking training every time you walk outside, you can achieve this easily.
New motion recording
Every day your Move ring goes further than ever before (meaning you burned more calories in a day), you’ll earn this reward. There’s a catch: you need to use your Apple Watch for 10 days before you can complete this.
New exercise recording
It’s like the Move Record success, only for the green ring. This one is based on exercise minutes, not calories burned, so it’s very easy to get. Much like the Move Record achievement, you first need to use your Apple Watch for 10 days.
Move lens 200%, 300%, 400%
You earn this when you exceed your calorie goal (the red Move ring) by 2x, 3x, or 4x, respectively. In other words, it is given to rotate the red activity ring two, three or four times a day. It’s easy to get if you just set your move goal really low.
New Move Goal
Each time you change your daily movement goal and then exceed that new goal, you get that achievement. You can change your Move goal by opening the Activity app on your Apple Watch and tapping the screen.
Longest sequence of movements
When you hit your Move goal (close the red ring) on consecutive days, that’s a “streak.” You get this award when your streak finally ends, if it is longer than your previous best streak.
Perfect week
This is given for four categories: Moving, Exercise, Standing, and All Activities. For the first three, simply close the rings (red, green or blue) every day of the week. To get the Perfect Week badge (all activities), close the three rings every day for a whole week. You can earn it multiple times, although it only displays one badge.
Remember that a week in the Activity app runs from Monday to Sunday!
perfect month
Unlike Perfect Week, there aren’t multiple different Perfect Month badges for the different color rings. The only Perfect Month achievement is closing the red Move ring every day of the month.
There is, however, a separate Perfect Month badge for each month and each year. So you can earn that in February and again in March, and again in February the following year.
Monthly challenge
Each month has its own unique fitness challenge. If you’ve set notifications for the Activity app on our Apple Watch, you’ll see the goal featured at the start of the month, but you’ll also see the current month’s challenge in the Achievements tab of the Activity app on your iPhone. . It’ll be a gray outline before it’s completed, but you can tap on it to see what the challenge entails.
The monthly challenge can ask you to burn a specific number of calories, train multiple times, or walk a certain distance. There’s no telling what each new month will bring, just watch!
100, 365, 500, 1,000 move goals
When you hit your daily movement goal (close the red ring) 100 times, you get an achievement badge. You get another for hitting it 365 times, 500 times, and 1,000 times. These do not need to be aligned; it’s just the total number of times you’ve already reached the goal.
Limited Achievements
Apple offers several one-time challenges per year that are only available for a limited time. Often they are only there for a day or a weekend. Some are restricted to the United States as they are based on US holidays.
You’ll get a notification on your Apple Watch when one appears (make sure notifications are turned on for the Activity app, using the Watch app on your iPhone).
