Whether you just got a new Mac or upgraded an old one, macOS Sonoma is full of fun new features to explore everywhere. But after setting your new screensaver and customizing your widgets, you may discover a new feature that you don’t actually want.
It’s called Click Wallpaper to Reveal Desktop and if you used it, it’s probably accidentally. Perhaps you misclicked a file or shortcut or accidentally clicked on your desktop wallpaper. Regardless of how you got there, you were probably very confused when your windows flew away to reveal your desktop.
Apple gave us the ability to quickly bring up your desktop for a certain amount of time, either via a four-finger gesture or Hot Corner, but in macOS Sonoma your desktop will show up simply by clicking somewhere on your background. ‘screen. The first time I activated it, I thought I had done something wrong. The second time, I thought I activated the gesture inadvertently. The third time, I just thought I was going crazy.

Turns out this is a Stage Manager feature that Apple has enabled by default. If you go to Desk and docking station in the system settings there is a new Click Wallpaper to reveal the desktop in the Desktop & Stage Manager section with two options: Always And Only in Stage Manager. If you’re like me and never use Stage Manager, set it to Only in Stage Manager means you’ll never see him again. I don’t know why Apple added it by default, but luckily they gave us an easy way to turn it off.
