For several weeks, the latest installment of Android Auto with the Coolwalk interface has been available in our cars and our phones. One of the most interesting, practical and differential innovations of this version is that it divides the different sections of Android Auto into two or more windows to see more information on the screen. Let’s see better with a concrete example of Android Auto Coolwalk being used for a trip. We have Google Maps with our route and at some point we play music with Amazon Music (the effect would be the same using Waze as a browser and Spotify for music). The image you will see is the one that illustrates this article: two apps share the screen.
Something that can happen while driving with the help of the navigator and listening to music is that you receive a notification from a messaging application (here it will depend on how you have configured the notifications ), in this case it’s Telegram. But just below these lines you will see that shortly after another WhatsApp notification appeared and after the notice, the screen has split into three.
In fact, with Android Auto Coolwalk it is possible to divide the screen of the console of our car into three, to see three applications simultaneously: navigation, communication and entertainment. Note that depending on the size, navigation takes precedence and takes on its full meaning: it is more important to be able to follow the route correctly than to see what song is playing or a message from an application.
From multi-window mode to single-window mode and vice versa
And now what? If you want see only one app on screenAll you have to do is tap on it (the one you’re interested in) so it fills the whole screen. If you want to switch back to multi-window modeJust tap on the icon at the bottom left of the screen (as a window tile). A curiosity: the split screen is adjusted according to the size and format of the console of your car, since it is not the same thing to have a 7 inch as a 15 inch, for example.
So back to multi-window mode. Note that at this time the mosaic icon is no longer there: in its place we find application launcher iconthe same as we came in previous versions of Android Auto.
