The MacOS app is very reliable, which is why Mac users forget that sometimes problems can arise. The occurrence of a major problem may cause you to re-install the macOS operating system.
There is an easy way to do it using a Mac computer partition or by using Microsoft Internet Recovery. You can enter recovery mode with the combination of the & # 39; Command + R & # 39; keyboard. But what do you do when this doesn't work?
Next, we will discuss the best solutions to these problems. If you want to know how to make macOS clean installation, see all the information in this article that deals with each version of the operating system.
What is Mac Restoration?
Most people do not think of their disks or SSDs according to categories. They just see the whole album as one thing. The hard drive is usually a single volume, but is then split into several parts, known as partitions or volumes.
Although you may be used to seeing a single volume when you have your desktop, folders and apps, there are several divisions and one of them is used for more cases when you have to completely install a macOS application.
Even if you completely erase your Mac and start from scratch, the recovery partition will remain there so you can restart macOS, restore from the Machine Machine backup, and repair or erase your hard drive.
Without a doubt, you may have a problem if you need to re-install the operating system from scratch and miss the recovery partition due to some reason, or you can't access it. Fortunately, there are alternatives to this situation.
In versions prior to the arrival of the Mac OS X Lion in 2011, there was no redirection. Instead, you needed to have a physical hard drive and software and an Optical drive for installation and learning.
At the moment, it is rare to find a Mac with an Optical drive, much less find the person with the first discs that came with a computer. So, let's look at some of the alternatives we have in this situation.
The & # 39; R command & # 39; does not work
There are reasons why & # 39; Command + R & # 39; don't work and your Mac doesn't start in recovery mode:
- If your Mac is old and running on a previous version of macOS, running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or earlier, you won't have a recovery partition. After that, the only way to re-install the operating system is to use the disks installed with the Mac. We'll see later.
- If your Mac uses macOS version earlier than Sierra (introduced in 2016), then you won't have all the recovery options available.
- The keyboard may be faulty or your Mac may not be connected to it via Bluetooth, if so, try using another wiring.
- Something may damage your partition or remove it by replacing your hard drive or installing Windows using Boot Camp.
The first thing you should try is to restart your Mac and press & # 39; Command + R & # 39; and when it started. There are other ways you can try and here we explain:
It is possible to use Internet Access Mode, an option that we will analyze in detail below. This method downloads the form of macOS on the Internet, which can be the solution if you cannot access your Mac restore.
- Press & # 39; Option / Alt + Command + R & # 39; when you first install the & # 39; Internet Restoration Mode & # 39;
Once you have entered this mode, you can log into the Apple server to download the macOS version. This will be the last MacOS compatible with your Mac. Note: If you are not running Sierra 10,12.4 or later, a standard version of your Mac will be installed.
If you do not want to install the latest version of macOS, you can try the following:
- Shift + Option / Alt + Command R & # 39; (if you are using Sierra 10.12.4 or later) will install the MacOS version that comes with your Mac, or very close.
If your Mac has a T2 chip, there might be a simple reason why & # 39; Command + R & # 39; it doesn't work. In this case, try:
- & # 39; Option / Alt + Command + R & # 39; install the latest version of macOS on your Mac if it has a T2 chip.
Mac recovery mode does not work
Your Mac's hard drive may not be repaired and the recovery mode is not working. This includes some steps, because you will have to replace the disk.
If you have access to Internet recovery mode, it may be a slow process, depending on the speed of your connection. In these cases, we recommend connecting the Mac with an Ethernet cable, whenever possible.
What to do if the recovery mode doesn't work?
It's always possible to restore a Mac without a recovery partition, but it can be tricky (especially on an older Mac). Here are some alternatives:
- Use & # 39; Internet Recovery & # 39; re-installing macOS on Mac with a recovery partition. Check out this section to find out how.
- Create a boot drive to install a copy of macOS.
- Use your Machine Time backup as a drive in the boot.
- It is also possible to create a recovery partition.
Let's take a look at all these options below, but first, a quick explanation of what a split is.
How to check if your split resume is working properly
First of all, you should check that your Mac does not really have any active partition running. You may have been using the wrong key combination or your keyboard may not work, for example.
We explain how to start a Refresh Unit:
- Turn off your Mac using the & # 39; Apple Menu> Turn off & # 39 ;.
- Hold the & # 39; Command and R & # 39; then press the & # 39; Power & # 39;
- Continue pressing the & # 39; Command and R & # 39; until the Apple logo arrives on the screen. Release the keys and wait for the Mac to finish launching.
- You should see a screen that says MacOS Resources (or your Mac X before, OS X Resources). This is a recovery division. If you have this, stop worrying.
However, if your Mac comes up in normal viewing mode, or a completely blank screen appears, then you have no recovery partition.
If your Mac boots are on macOS, then you can check the & # 39; Signal & # 39; mode to see if you have any recovery part; We show you how:
- Turn the end off
- Access the & # 39; diskutil & # 39; list
You should see a list of all the volumes and partitions on your computer. The first drive (/ dev / disk0) must have a partition (which usually appears as & # 39; 3 & # 39; with Apple Boot Recovery HD behind it). Try using the & # 39; Command + R & # 39; and.
You can also see these tips to see if it makes your recovery division look miraculous.
- Reset your PRAM. Turn off your Mac and press and hold the & # 39; Command-Option-PR & # 39; at runtime. Wait for the sound to play.
- Check your keyboard (especially if it's a Bluetooth keyboard). Try using a wired keyboard as much as possible.
If your discovery partition isn't available or doesn't work, and you've tried everything, it's time to think about re-installing macOS. You can use Time Machine to refresh all your files, folders and applications once you've updated macOS.
How to use the Internet Restore macOS
This is a must do if you do not have the redesign component on your Mac and need to install macOS (in fact, even if you do not need to install macOS, you should do that as security).
The first way is to use a function called & # 39; Internet Revenue & # 39; New Macs can start directly from the Internet connection, with or without any partition available. Explains how to use MacOS Internet Revenue:
- Turn off your Mac.
- Hold the & # 39; Command-Option / Alt-R & # 39; then press the power button. (For certain Mac keyboards, the Option key will be called Alt).
- Press and hold those keys until a rotating globe appears and the message "Starting Internet Access. This may take some time."
- The message will be replaced with a progress line. Wait for it to finish.
- Next, a & # 39; MacOS Utility & # 39;
- Click & # 39; Reinstall macOS & # 39; then follow the installation process.
You may have problems with Internet restoration, as it only works with networks that use WEP and WPA security. This is for most home Wi-Fi networks, but if you're on a proxy or PPPoE network, you'll have problems.
In these cases, it is usually better to find another network instead of making a USB Revenue Stick (next step). If you have & # 39; Internet Recovery & # 39 ;, use it to reinstall macOS when possible.
How to create a macOS boot disk in a pendrive
If you can't access & # 39; Internet Revenue & # 39 ;, then you have the option to create boot install from the hard drive (at least 12 GB of capacity). This will completely erase your USB flash drive or flash drive.
The easiest way to make a USB flash boot disk is to use the Terminal:
Open your applications folder and see if you have any macOS or Mac OS X installation files that you need. In the case of Sierra or High Sierra you will see something like this, for example.
Once you have installed the version of macOS you need, follow these steps:
- Connect your unit light USB for Mac.
- Open Disk Utility & # 39;
- Select the volume (External) in the sidebar. The dose is high, not the difference (below).
- Click & # 39; Turn off & # 39 ;.
- Make sure it says "No title" in the name field. Don't change this. Click on Delete.
- Turn the end off
- Cut and paste the appropriate text for & # 39; inquinstallmedia & # 39; into the terminal (the code will depend on the macOS version, so we suggest you get it in this case link provided by Apple itself of macOS versions.
- After that you must enter your administrator password. Then, enter "y" and press & # 39; Enter & # 39; It will erase your flash drive and convert it into a hard disk.
Install macOS from disk in boot
After you create the disk in the boot, follow these steps to recover:
- Connect the hard drive to a compatible Mac.
- Use the & # 39; Boot Disk & # 39; or Boot Manager to select that number as a disk in the boot, and then boot to that boot. Mac will launch from & # 39; MacOS Recovery & # 39;
- When prompted, select the language you want to use.
- The boot disk does not download macOS over the Internet, but needs connection to get specific information about your Mac model, such as updates to firmware. Use the Wi-Fi menu menu.
- Select Install MacOS (or Install OS X) in the & # 39; Utilities window & # 39 ;, then click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
How to re-install macOS X on an old Mac without recovery mode
If your Mac is running Snow Leopard or a previous version of macOS, your Mac disk will have no recovery partition. So, you'll need to re-install your app from scratch. What can you do?
If you have original discs that ship with your Mac, you should be able to use them.
If it turns out that for some reason you don't have those discs, your best option is to request a copy. You can still buy a copy of Snow Leopard at the Apple store, although what you will find at Apple is download code instead of physical disks.
Once you have the Snow Leopard discs, you can install them on your Mac's optical drive – you think you have one – and install the operating system. If what you receive is a download code, then you will need to proceed as we have noted throughout the article.
