For years, readers intermittently reported having seen external screens after waking them up, but we had a new one recently arrived: a couple had the problem on each of their screens. There is no model they see and, as with the previous correspondents, the deactivation of the screen and erases problems.
Although there is no unique answer, research gives the impression that the cable is Or A protocol transported on the cable is the problem. You can help this quite easily depending on the Mac model and display you have.
The HDCP (High Bandwidth Digital Protection) HDCP protocol runs behind the scenes of all devices in accordance with HDMI or DisplayPort specifications (including using them on Thunderbolt or USB) as an attempt to prevent hacking. HDCP requires a kind of “handshake” between the host device (a Mac or another computer) and a screen. If the handshake fails, which can happen if there is a slight delay after the Mac awakening and the screen does not obtain the answer it needs, you may see static. Disconnect the cable, feed the screen cycle or press ESC with a connection window screen, then press any button should erase the condition, but only once.
Some people have found that the change of cable solves the problem, whether the root is HDCP or a cable problem. HDMI cables are assessed for specific performance. You do not need a gold plated specially in gold which costs 20 times more than a normal cable, but you certainly need an HDMI cable at high speed or better, which starts at less than $ 10.
All DisplayPort cables can manage any resolution and updating, but as Apple only uses USB-C and HDMI ports to transport video data, you probably use either an HDMI-TO-HDMI cable, a USB-C-TO-HDMI cable, or a USB-C adapter or a dock with an HDMI port. If your screen has USB-C native support and you have a spare port, try a USB-C-T-USB-C cable.
