How to tell if your iPhone has been infected with Pegasus

Pegasus spyware has become immeasurably famous these days. Apparently, some governments and other criminal organizations (and even some governments that function as criminal organizations) have used this Israeli-made software to infect the mobile devices of certain people of interest in order to obtain confidential information.

Your privacy probably doesn’t matter to the two hundred followers you have on Instagram, but it doesn’t hurt to know if we’ve been infected. With this tool, you will be able to find out if you have been infected with Pegasus spyware and thus restore your device to avoid it.

Let’s take a look at this tool.

According to TechCrunch, this new application called Mobile Verification Toolkit lets you know if your mobile device is infected with Pegasus. To do this, the first thing you need to do is download the tool from this link, to proceed with its installation on your Mac. Then you need to connect iPhone to computer via cable to establish connection. It doesn’t have an advanced GUI, you will have to take advantage of the command line for that.

  1. Install all dependencies with the command “brew install python3 libusb”.
  2. Make a backup of your iPhone
  3. Use the command “mvt-ios”

To check its operation, you have the following commands:

  • check-backup> Extract information from a copy of iTunes on iPhone
  • check-fs> To be used only if your iPhone has Jailbreak
  • check-iocs> Compare spyweare search results
  • decrypt-backup> Decrypt iTunes copies and vice versa

If the command line displays “WARNING” This means that you have found a suspicious file and have likely been affected by Pegasus, as shown in the header image of this post.

This way, you can easily tell if you have Pegasus spyware. Plus, from Mobile Tool Verification, they make sure they run on a graphical interface that makes the process easier, while we have to sort out.
