Waze was recently updated with some important changes like the road incident reporting interface. One of its greatest virtues is that much of the information it offers the driver comes from its community of users who offer real-time reports. Unlike Maps, which has an offline mode, Waze lets you download maps, but in a different way.
And Waze doesn’t offer the map download functionality that Google Maps offers. It is the application depends on real-time data and the reports that users make to avoid traffic jams or the fall of a tree branch on one side of the road on which they are traveling.
Indeed, this type of data, such as the report of light traffic jams, They serve Waze to offer recommendations to users so that they change their route and thus save those long minutes practically stopped. All of this activity requires an internet connection, although there is a way to use Waze without a data connection.
All you need to do is set up a trip or route when the connection is available. via WiFi or mobile data to plan the destination. The app’s trip planning, which allows you to configure a departure or arrival time to avoid the worst departure times on a bridge, is saved in the cache, allowing it to be used offline or offline.
To be able to use this experience in Waze these points must be taken into account:
- If the application is closed
- If there is a detour on the routeThe app is redirected and the current route will be lost because you don’t have an internet connection.
- In active offline viewbasic functions are limited and access to real-time data (reports, radars, etc.) is lost.
- Waze does not calculate speed and turn changes.
The first method
Hay two methods to use Waze offline. The first is used to use the WiFi connection at home so that when you drive away, data is not even needed to navigate with Waze to the destination:
- Waze opens and the destination is chosen.
- In the results, choose Show Routes.
- Calculate the best route to select one and click Go Now.
- The next thing is to turn off data take the car and head towards the destination.
- Swipe down to access the quick access panel to turn off mobile data or WiFi.
- This panel is closed and Waze continues to be used offline.
The second method
It’s him ideal for storing various travel plans and therefore use them at any time. That is, if you usually travel to a destination periodically, you can save it as a trip to access it without using the connection.
- From the menu button at the top left, choose Plan a trip.
- Now let’s move on to the button located at the bottom right with the +.
- Select the destination to choose one of the results.
- Now the date and time chosen for departure (it is recommended to use a date later than the current day).
- It is recorded in the upper right part.
- All these steps are repeated to add more maps or trips.
- Now all you have to do is go to the Plan a trip menu and select some of the saved trips.
- Click Go and Waze will calculate the route.
- Now you can disconnect the Internet connection to access the destination.
Two methods, according to Android Font, to use Waze offline and even more when it does not have a personalized mode as is the case with Google Maps; which allows you to download routes and update them when there is new information in the downloaded areas.
