How to write text in different formats with WhatsApp

Do you know that in WhatsApp you can write text in bold or italics? Or set citation levels or create numeric or bulleted lists? All this is very simple, it can be done from the WhatsApp application itself without having to download anything, and in this video we explain how.

For a long time, you can write on WhatsApp using options like bold, italic, strikethrough, or even monospaced text. It’s something they don’t know much about, but it’s been around for a long time. It’s a very simple procedure, since you just have to put the text you want to format between a few special charactersaccording to the desired format:

  • If we want to write in bold, we must use *text*
  • If we want to write in italics, we must use _text_
  • If we want to write strikethrough, we must use ~text~
  • If we want to write in monospace, we must use “`text“`

But that’s not the only thing we can do with WhatsApp, we now also have new options to make our messages even more “rich”. We can write bulleted or numerical lists, write quotes, and highlight text using shading..

  • If we want to write a list with bullets, just start the line with “-” and a space, it will automatically become a bullet and every time we press Enter another line with bullets will be created. When we want to finish, just press Enter twice, just like on your computer.
  • If we want to make a numerical list, we do the same thing but with a number followed by a period and a space. By pressing Enter we will automatically move to another line with the next number. To finish, press Enter twice and the list will end. By the way, there is no need to start with 1, we can start with any number we want.
  • If we want to create a quote in a message, we can do it with the “>” character followed by a space. The text will appear indented to the right, in gray and with a bar along its entire length. To finish, press Enter and we can write normally.
  • If we want to write a highlighted text, we must write “text” between these two characters, without spaces, and in this way we will make the text monotonous and also with a subtle shading that will distinguish it from the rest.
