This is the case of Huawei, which has created a version of its HarmonyOS platform for cars, after having first launched it for cellphones, tablets and Internet of Things devices. Last year, Geely announced that it was going to use this platform, and this week’s announcement goes even further.
Huawei’s car comes true
The alliance between Huawei and the Seres group seems to go beyond a simple contract for the use of the operating system of the first. The deal aims to “deepen” the union between the two companies, leveraging the best of both.
Huawei will bring its digitalization and user experience developments, with HarmonyOS on in-car displays, but it will also help Seres create a new platform for connected cars, which will implement the technology necessary to deliver intelligent experiences as standard.
The first car from this alliance is expected for this same 2023 and it should make its debut on this new platform. Its big highlight will be the intelligent driving systems, although no further details have been given in this regard.
This is an important step for Huawei, but not the only one it has taken to embark on the production of electric cars. Since 2021, the company has already been selling Seres-branded cars in its stores, so users can take the new Mate 50 and a new electric vehicle at the same time.
This partnership resulted in the creation of a new brand, AITO. Huawei even said that in three years it expects it to be a premium global brand, hinting that these vehicles will be launched outside of China. It’s unclear how that promise fits into the new partnership with Seres, and whether the new models will be part of that brand.
