It’s no secret: the more time we spend with our cell phone, the more we fill it with more and more things: applications, games, numerous memes and countless photos and videos. This, over time, can slow down the phoneand those of us who have experienced it know how frustrating it can be when your phone “hangs” to the point that a force restart is necessary.
There are several ways to improve the performance of a slow mobile phone, some quicker and simpler, as well as other more drastic measures for worst cases (like a factory reset of the device). However, if you had to choose only one way to fix smartphone performance issues, I know clearly what it would be.
Freeing up storage is an (almost) foolproof remedy in most cases
The storage drive is a key aspect of mobile devices, how they work and how quickly they read and write data. can have a significant impact on mobile performance in general. If the storage drive is too full, the system will have difficulty saving new files, operating system updates, and application updates.
This can also have a negative effect on the operation of applications, since the operating system needs to store cache and temporary files to function correctly and without problems. These files have a minimum size, but still Its performance may be affected if we do not have available space in the storage unit.
The first thing I do when I get my hands on a slow cell phone is to check its available storage capacity and how much junk the cell phone has. By freeing up space we can see an improvement
Having available storage space is so important that it can affect the performance of mobile phones of all types, both low end and high end. Especially when we talk about, for example, the 256 GB capacity of a device, only 6 GB are available, for example.
That’s why the first thing I do when a mobile phone with performance problems comes into my hands is to check its storage status. If it is too full, I give the following recommendations to its owner, the benefits are almost immediate:
- Eliminate apps and games you don’t use and they take up a lot of space.
- Eliminate old and heavy videosas well as many old images.
- And in general, do a system cleanup.
It is not the same that a mobile phone (especially a mobile phone with more limited hardware) has 200 images in its gallery, than 2000 files between images and videos. Cleaning up the library a little and, above all, disabling the automatic downloading of images and videos in WhatsApp, represents a considerable performance improvement.
In the same way we can achieve improvement reduce the number of files saved in certain applications: Do you have too much music stored on Spotify or your favorite music streaming service? Maybe you could eliminate some songs that you don’t listen to much. Have you downloaded two full seasons of a series in the Netflix app and haven’t even started watching it? There are more files you can delete. Google Files app is really effective in removing duplicate files and junk files from the system.
In general, keeping a reasonable amount of free storage space on your phone results in better performance. I know, Easier said than doneespecially if our mobile has a capacity of 128 GB, but keeping about a quarter of the storage capacity free allows the mobile to work much better and not slow down, or at least it will not do so for this reason.
