A Gmail account comes with 15GB of free storage, and at first you might think that’s plenty, but you’ll soon notice that the available space is gradually disappearing, between the photos, videos, and other files you send and receive via your email. At some point, you might get that dreaded message warning you that you can no longer receive emails: you have no more space available.
And besides Gmail, the files you upload to Drive and the photos and videos you back up to the cloud in Photos also take up some of that space, even WhatsApp backups also take up some of that precious and limited free storage. Next, we’re going to tell you a super easy way to keep your Gmail clean and reclaim some of that space.
How to Clean Up Your Gmail and Free Up Space with Google One
Over time, we accumulate many emails in our Gmail account, even thousands, and many of these emails usually come with attachments, some larger than others. The idea is delete all these emails and their files if we no longer need it, in order to free up storage space in Gmail.
To make it quick and easy, we’re going to use another Google app. Its name is Google One and is available for free on the Play Store. The application will constantly prompt us to pay a subscription to get more cloud storage space, but if we don’t want to go through the checkout, we can use the tools in this same application to clean up our email.
In the Google One app, do the following:
- In the application, we access the tab Storage
- Then we continue Free up account storage
- Then we have several options available: we can delete emails in the trash, spam and most importantly, We will go to the Emails with large attachments option
- In this section we can filter attachments according to their size: more than 20 MB, between 10 and 20 MB and less than 10 MB
- Finally, we delete everything emails with large attachments that we don’t need
The app also allows you to view all the large files in your Google account, which also includes the contents of Google Drive. It is also recommended Access this section to delete large and old filess in Drive that are taking up too much storage space.
And that’s it, thanks to this application and following these steps you will be able to recover the storage space available on your Google account. We can ignore the “Update” message that constantly appears in the application, since pressing it invites us to pay a subscription.
