Instagram is testing Stories in portrait format, and some users may already be using them.
Over the past few months, we’ve seen how Instagram has started testing lots of new features and changes to its app. During the first days of the month they told us about the 3 new views they are testing for the Instagram feed, and just yesterday they told us about the new function that will allow us to rearrange the photos of our profile. Today, however, the novelty comes to the Stories section, and that is that Instagram intends to look more like its biggest competitor than ever
Some Instagram users reported that their Stories started sliding vertically, as opposed to the horizontal way we’ve all become accustomed to since the arrival of Stories on Instagram. According to social media consultant Matt Navarra, users in Turkey and Brazil were the first to receive the news. Navarra tells us that while stories from the same user scroll horizontally, if you want to see stories from other users, you’ll have to swipe vertically.

Instagram’s intention to look more and more like TikTok is not new. Since the arrival of the Reels, the application focuses its attention on the video section, and they assured that it will be Instagram’s star format in 2022. Also, in December, we learned that Instagram was testing 60-second stories, a fairly sudden jump from the current 15 seconds.
The new feature of Vertical Instagram Stories is still in the testing phase, as everything seems to indicate, and the rollout of this new feature has not yet been officially announced. It is quite common for tests on apps of this type to be carried out in specific regions and only for specific or randomly selected users.
