One of the things I’m looking forward to most with iOS 17 is all of news you can use without even leaving the lock screen from the iPhone. Apple has put the batteries with elements such as Widgets, which finally gain in interactivity and become what they should have been from the beginning.
And not only that: making the iPhone more flexible without even unlocking it can help solve the problem everyone has with the iPhone and the endless distractions it can bring. Tim Cook can already be proud.
It’s not just what you do, it’s what you avoid doing
The fact that Widgets can be used without needing to invoke apps is already very useful, as it means you can do certain actions (like turning the lights on or off in a HomeKit home) without having to unlock everything. These widgets can also be part of the iPhone 14 Pro always-on display.
It may not seem like much, but not having to open apps, close them, or switch between them it can simplify many of our tasks. More if we have the first steps in creating shortcuts, which can also be part of these Widgets.
My home screen in iOS 17 may have more widgets than icons
The actions I already plan to turn into Widgets on my screen are my shopping list, various Home app environments, and accessing a few notes that I check very frequently. I also found timers, that I always lose track of time when boiling pasta. Maybe with iOS 17, my iPhone’s main screen has a lot more widgets than it does now, just for that reason.
But what is most important, at least for me: this can result in very few interruptions of what I want to do. If I want to do a quick task that I can tackle from a Widget, I don’t need to open apps. Maybe I don’t even need to unlock the phone. And it can be a huge help for those of us who want to regain our ability to focus.
I am one of those who never use betas on their main devices, I am still waiting for the September and October version update because I prefer not to take risks. But of course, this kind of news means iOS 17 isn’t “just another version” and you’re eagerly awaiting what’s new.
