Browse episodes in Apple Podcasts in iOS 18

Apple has been adding new features to Apple Podcasts for several months. One of the latest additions was automatic episode transcription introduced with the iOS and iPadOS 17.4 update. With the arrival of the first two developer betas of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, it was revealed that Apple would introduce Navigating chapters in Apple Podcasts episodes. This allows the user to navigate more quickly through an episode of their favorite podcast, as happens in other applications such as YouTube. We tell you everything below.

Chapter navigation comes to Apple Podcasts in iOS 18

Podcasts have become one of the most important assets of content creators today. The consumption of content on different subjects is already done through podcasts and we see it with the rise of certain platforms dedicated to this type of content. Apple knows this and makes its Apple Podcasts application a renewed application that allows users to use it in their daily lives.

The novelty introduced in the first beta version of iOS 18, and which was known via Reddit, is the navigation in chapters, not the chapters themselves that could have already been added to Apple Podcasts a long time ago. This new feature, as you can see in the image at the top of the article, allows the user to easily move with the play bar between the different parts that make up a podcast episode. In this way, the user can quickly see the structure of the episode and quickly access a specific episode if desired.

At the moment, this navigation is only available in the Apple Podcasts app itself and not from the lock screen, although it could be a good idea if the bar were divided into as many parts as there are parts in the episode and the user could quickly navigate even in the lock screen. We will see how Apple decides to move forward in the next betas for developers and if it finally seems to maintain the function even if everything seems to be like this.
