Apple continues to work with the IETF to extend this feature to more vehicles.
The times are changing. And a lot. Where in the past we were completely in disbelief that it was possible to unlock a car door with a button on the key fob… nowadays we are not even surprised to discover that it is possible open a vehicle directly from an iPhone.
And this is quite normal, considering that in these times it is very natural to use the iPhone to make payments with Apple Pay through the NFC technology
Apple offers a feature known as Car Key that allows owners of certain vehicles open your doors by bringing your iPhone. Well, they will now be able to share their virtual car key with Android users, as 9to5mac reports.
Sharing car key with Android users is now possible
This is the first time that Apple has extended the use of car key beyond the list of iPhone and Apple Watch devices that support this feature.
The Cupertino company works with IETF
For its part, Google plans to soon offer support for this function for all devices compatible with Android 12.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with this feature and wants to learn more, Car Key is a feature developed in the Cartera application which aims to unlock the doors of a vehicle and start it in the same way that payments are made without touching through Apple Pay. It is available for iPhone and Apple Watch. And all you have to do is bring the device closer to the door!
Sharing the car key with other users was previously possible via the Apple Wallet app send a message from Messages or WhatsApp and even via Mail. However, the keys could only be shared with other iPhone users. Now it will also be possible to do the same with Android smartphones.
This is certainly great news for any family whose members do not share the same predilections for smartphones and operating systems. And how wonderful the world of technology is!
