Apple has updated iMovie to version 3.0. An update that comes six months after the one that brought us support for Cinema mode, Dolby Atmos and more and that launches a new way of producing small films thanks to the Magic Movie function and the Storyboard function. An update that we can now download to our iPhone or iPad.

The new version of iMovie makes it easier than ever for us to create and edit videos on our iPhone or iPad. Thanks to Storyboards, we can learn, as beginners, to editing the video and improving our storytelling techniques, so it’s a very interesting starting point. We can choose between 20 storyboards designed for different types of videos, each of them contains a shot list that organizes the scenes. In each shot we see an example thumbnail and a message or suggestion for recording the corresponding scene.
“Thanks to iMovie, millions of people around the world create and share their video stories,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of worldwide product marketing. “The new version of iMovie, which includes Storyboards and Movie Magic, makes the process even easier, and we believe it will empower a new generation of content creators.”
In this version, Apple also surprises us — it must be said: it surprises, with all the letters — with the Magic Movie function. Thanks to this feature, it now only takes a few clicks to create personalized videos with titles, transitions and music. We simply select an album, perhaps a smart album created on the Mac, or a set of images in the library and the system automatically identifies the best parts and creates a fully finished and complete project from them.
Of course, we can rearrange and delete the scenes we consider or directly modify the project itself. The results are truly impressive. The process of detecting shots, framing, selecting, goes beyond giving us ideas for a video with a good storyline, it generates results that in many cases will not need retouching. additional, just sharing and viewing.
