And very soon they will also have to be as smart as a cell phone, with the arrival of advanced assistants that will avoid distractions on the road, being able to know exactly what we need and how to give it to us.
The use of generative AI will be the next frontier for many manufacturers, who are already looking for ways to offer this technology to their drivers; and ChatGPT is the most obvious choice, since its creators, OpenAI, already offer a platform to which automotive software can be connected. Soon we will see how it works with Peugeot cars. Peugeot’s product manager, Jérôme Micheron, confirmed this in statements to Reuters.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an automaker bet on ChatGPT. A few weeks ago, Volskwagen announced the integration of ChatGPT into its IDA voice assistant, and before that, Mercedes-Benz was one of the first to experiment with ChatGPT in the car. Even DS Automobiles, one of Peugeot’s “sister brands” within the Stellantis group, has already made ChatGPT AI available to Spanish drivers.
The main difference between Peugeot’s announcement and all of these is the immediacy and ambition of the project. We are not talking about an “experiment”, or a “limited test” on a specific model; Micheron surprised by revealing that all Peugeot cars will have ChatGPT as standard equipmentfrom their new electric vehicles to utility vehicles.

The Peugeot version of ChatGPT will be able to connect to certain car controls, for example to change the air conditioning temperature, as well as to resolve questions related to the journey and the chosen route. It’s clear that if they want to be competitive, other manufacturers will have to do something similar; The big question is what Google will do, and whether it will offer access to Google Bard, its alternative to ChatGPT.
