Google is tired of being second in terms of artificial intelligence, with a big update for its “chatbot”, Google Bard. To begin with, Gemini Pro finally arrives in Europe, the new version of the language model which, thanks to its greater performance, is capable of carrying out several tasks at the same time; This allows new features to be added, such as the ability to verify a response.
But that’s not the only announcement Google has in store for us today, and the second one might be more important for the average user. We are talking about creating images using artificial intelligence, something that its competitors already have but that until now Google was not ready to implement.
This is not a technical problem, since Google has been experimenting with creating images from text for years; But it was not until the creation of its new model, called “Image 2”, that the company was sure of being able to attract users. The big advantage of Image 2 over its predecessors and other similar models is its training on high-quality images and detailed descriptions that better match the “prompts”, the indications that users make when they ask an AI something.
Google now creates images
In other words, this AI should better understand what we want and generate a high quality image, potentially better than that of alternatives like Midjourney or Dall-E, the latter integrated into Microsoft’s Copilot. Compared to ChatGPT, Google Bard will have the advantage of being able to create images for free, unlike OpenAI’s AI, which requires a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
Another key aspect of AI image creation is “fake” or fake images being shared as if they were real. To combat this, all images created by Google Bard They will have a sort of “watermark”, which will indicate that the image is not real; Furthermore, Google specifies that it has put in place measures so that the AI does not generate images of known people and will limit “violent, offensive or explicitly sexual” content.
To celebrate the arrival of image generation at Bard, Google changed its social media icon to an AI-generated icon in the style of Salvador Dalí. Imaging with Bard is currently only available in English; although the tests carried out by EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre confirm that, even using this language, the function is not available in Europe and Google Bard responds with the phrase “I cannot generate images yet”. It is therefore possible that this is a soft launch and that it arrives in Europe at a later date.
