ChatGPT has become a widely used tool on computers and mobile phones. Its official Android app isn’t perfect, but it still offers the access this artificial intelligence from your own application. And beyond mobile, some have even expanded ChatGPT to more devices, like smartwatches with Wear OS.
The ChatGPT application allows you to ask questions and chat with the chatbot as well as the AI, either in its version based on GPT-3.5, or in its GPT-4 version (accessible by subscription). Until now, to use the applicati on you obviously had to access the application. But its latest update adds a very useful and quick shortcut.
How to Setup ChatGPT Quick Access on Android Phones
A recent update of the ChatGPT application for Android, available directly on the Google Play Store, allows add a button to access ChatGPT directly from the quick settings panel from mobile, shared by Mishaal Rahman and X (Twitter).
This means that to access ChatGPT, you will simply swipe down from the top of the screen and press the small button with the ChatGPT logo, regardless of which screen you are on.
It’s even possible access ChatGPT in another application like YouTube, Telegram or any other.
Enabling Quick Access is quite simple. On Samsung Galaxy phones, follow these steps:
- Swipe from the top of the screen twice to access quick settings panel.
- Press the button shaped like pencil.
- Press the buttons Edit on each screen, and configure the ChatGPT option to appear both among the most used options (with a single swipe) and in the quick settings panel (which appears with a double swipe). It’s only necessary drag the ChatGPT icon to the desired position
The result will look like the image below, depending on the position you set the button. Now when you go to the mobile quick settings, you will find the button to start ChatGPT with just a press of a button.
On mobile phones like the Google Pixel, the process is very similar:
- To access quick settings panel by swiping down twice from the top of the screen.
- Press the button shaped like pencil.
- Look for the ChatGPT button among the available options and drag it to the options that are part of the quick settings, in the position where you want the button to be.
And that’s all. On any Android mobile, when you start ChatGPT from the quick settings panel, you can chat and ask questions with the AI through a floating animated window that appears on the screen of the application we are in . For a more detailed account of our activity and our responses in text form, we can access the application by pressing the small button in the lower right corner.
Since I activated this option, I admit that I use ChatGPT more frequently on my Android mobile, even to ask random questions such as in which films I could have seen a secondary actor from the Succession series, what which would normally be searched on Google and it would send me to some suggested results like Wikipedia, but many times ChatGPT gives me a faster and more dynamic response in these types of situations.
