After promising to unveil the first cars supporting its next-generation CarPlay at the end of 2023, Apple has finally revealed the first models with the full infotainment system. Arriving in vehicles next year, the first cars with the new interface will come from Porsche and Aston Martin.
As Car and Driver reports, CarPlay will be personalized for each of the cars. For example, the Porsche interface (see below) features three gauges above the steering wheel and a “wallpaper that mimics the car’s distinctive houndstooth (or Pepita in Porsche-speak) seat pattern.” brand “. The Aston Martin interface “features a central information screen surrounded by a circular speedometer and tachometer, the latter incorporating the wraparound text ‘Handbuilt in Great Britain’.

Car and Driver hasn’t shared much information about the experience, but says it “requires an iPhone to share app information.” However, most of the system runs on the vehicle itself, so Android users will likely be able to purchase one as well.
Aston Martin says the new system is “compatible with its latest infotainment system launching in 2024,” including the DB12 coupe and Volante convertible, which start at $250,000. Porsche was tight-lipped about which models would be supported by next-gen CarPlay, but the first cars will likely also target the high end of the market.
However, as Car and Driver notes, Porsche is owned by Volkswagen and Aston Martin has close ties to Mercedes, so next-generation CarPlay should soon make its way into more affordable cars.
