A few years ago, a webcam was almost a fad. Between the speed of the Internet connection and the state of technology, the use we have made of this part of our Mac has been very limited, but today the landscape has changed dramatically. More online classes than ever, business meetings, FaceTime video conferencing. The Mac Camera is more important than ever. In this context, let’s talk today about the Logitech StreamCam, a benchmark of quality in a webcam.
Design and functionality: elegant and versatile
The Logitech StreamCam is really sleek. With very clean and simple lines and a front that frames a big goal, offers a presence without highlighting in the configuration of our office. Logitech sells the camera in two colors, for this review we chose the white variant.
An essential point of a good camera is its location. It is clear that we can buy and place a tripod, but it is also true that it is one more element, not only economically, but also in terms of the space occupied on our table. Also, during a call in general we will want the camera to focus on us from the screen, where we will try to keep the conversation going or show a slide, for example.
In this sense, the StreamCam comes with a simple and at the same time extremely practical solution. A kind of clamp adaptable to the size of almost any monitor. A clamp which, in addition, gives us all the flexibility to adjust the tilt and rotation of the camera without having to tilt the computer or make incidents.
The clip is made of plastic and has a rubber coating on the internal parts. Thanks to this rubber, the camera, that is, its mount, adheres well to the computer or monitor we place it on, giving us the peace of mind that it will not slip. At the same time, we can rest assured that with these materials we will not scratch the screen at any time.
One of the most important things about this camera is its ease of use for a Mac: no drivers, no apps, no adapters. A USB-C cable with which we connect the camera to the computer so that it recognizes it instantly and offer it to us as a camera option in FaceTime, Skype and any other similar app. The simplest and simplest experience we can imagine, surpassed, as inevitable, by an integrated camera.
Quality and resolution: much more than what a streaming needs
The quality of the Logitech StreamCam is truly impressive. If we only look at the specs, we can already get an idea of the power of this camera: Full HD 1080p at 60 fps. So far, everything is fine, but the level of detail the camera is able to capture is something that needs to be seen in person.
For this article, I used the StreamCam as a camera with the intention of observing details that a face seen up close doesn’t always offer. As we can see, the images are surprisingly sharp. The room lighting is generous, but I tested this device almost in the dark and its performance is still amazing.
I want to highlight here the automatic white balance, which is essential so that the images do not have a tone that is neither too saturated nor too cold or hot, which happens too often with other cameras. It is also important to talk about the speed of 60 fps. It is true that a video call is not, in general, a shot with a lot of movement, but if you get up to write on a whiteboard, for example, you can be sure that the fluidity of the image is complete.
As the saying goes, taste the colors. In Logitech, they clearly know the expression, because from the application that accompanies the camera we can adjust all the variables of the image that the StreamCam provides us. From increasing the brightness, contrast, to changing the tone, we can perform all of these steps from the app. It is important to note that once the settings are made these will be transferred to the camera, so using this in any app we will enjoy the image exactly as we want it to.
The perfect companion to StreamCam is Logitech Capture 2.0, the camera management software we just talked about that goes way beyond color management. An app from which we can cast, control scenes, create transitions, add text and titles much more. A very complete free application with which we are ready to take our first steps in the world of broadcasting.

Finally a brief mention of the microphone. Keep in mind that this is not a dedicated microphone. Having said that the quality of a video call or meeting is more than sufficient. In some cases better than the built-in microphones on some Macs and almost on par with what AirPods can offer. If what we want is quality so that we can record a podcast or stream on Twitch, we’ll probably want to go for something more specific, but if not we’ll take advantage of a microphone. quality hands-free with which to capture sound.
Overall, the Logitech StreamCam is really a round product. From the ease of placement on any screen, the USB-C port and Plug-and-Play operation, customizable settings, and a microphone that certainly stands up to itself, this camera is a great choice for our shows. , our calls or our meetings. An increasingly important product on the web that will allow us to be seen with the highest quality.
