macOS Ventura’s Mail app has a ton of new features, including smarter search, reminders, and rich links. But the two most notable features are related to the ability to schedule or cancel a send.
Let’s take an in-depth look at how each of them works and the what’s new in macOS Ventura
How to Unsend an Email in Apple Mail
- Before you can unsend an email, the sidebar (the left column in Mail that shows all your mailboxes) must be displayed. If it is not displayed, you will not be able to unsend an email. You can bring up the sidebar by clicking “View > Show Sidebar” or by pressing “Control-Command-S” on your keyboard.
- After you send an email, an “Unsend” link appears at the bottom of the sidebar. You will have 10 seconds to unsend your email. When the time expires, if you do not click on it, the link flashes in the form of a ‘Send mail’ alert and then the email will be sent.
To unsend the email, click the “Unsend” link before the timeout expires.
- When you unsend an email, the email opens in edit mode. You can make changes and resend it, or you can delete the message.
How to Schedule an Email in Apple Mail
- After composing your email, click the down arrow next to the “Send” button. This will open a popup window with scheduling options. You can select one of them or select “Send Later” to schedule a specific time.
- If you select “Send Later”, a scheduler will appear where you can set the date and time. Click the “Schedule” button when the appropriate time is set.
- Email scheduled for later will appear in the “Send Later” box in the sidebar. (If you’ve never scheduled an email before, you’ll find that this mailbox may take a few minutes to appear.)
You can always go to the “Send Later” mailbox and open an email to make whatever changes you think are appropriate before the scheduled time for the message to be sent.
Please note that the ‘Mail’ application must be open to send scheduled mail. You can always leave it running in the background so emails don’t sit in limbo.
