When Apple decides to open a new Apple flagship store, it selects prominent locations and offers visions of unique architectural concepts. This was the case in 2017, when Apple announced its intentions for a new store on the Place de la Federation, or “Fed Square” like the premises of Melbourne, Australia, said it. Fed Square is located in the artistic district of Melbourne, known locally as “the artistic heart” of the city.
It looks like an ideal place to put an Apple flagship store, right? Well, shortly after Apple announced its “most important store in the southern hemisphere”, the community expressed its objections, fearing that Apple's building harms the cultural relevance of the location. Finally, Heritage Victoria, a government regulator that monitors the historic sites, rejected a request for demolition of the Yarra building to make way for the Apple Store. This rejection killed the Federation Square Apple Store project.
However, this Apple Store is live – at least, thanks to Filip Chudzinski, a German designer. Chudzinki has created a gallery of stores from the Apple Federation that displays renderings of his ideas on what this store would be. Chudzinki's images are “based on a limited selection of reports, images and plans of the public preview of the project of the project”.
The images of Chudzinski have a glass building mainly on two floors which stands out simultaneously and mixes in its environment. A metal mesh screen on one of the sides of the building can retract to allow more sun. The lower floor would be traditional retail space, while the upper level would be for Apple and customer support for today. The building would neglect the Yarra river.
You will find below a selection of our favorite images, but there are many more. Make sure you consult the Chudzinski full gallery, which includes an animation of retracting mesh screens, space photos for Apple Vision Pro users and downloadable wallpapers for your Mac.
