Master & Dynamic makes excellent wireless headphones and headphones, including the excellent – but rather expensive – MW75 over -ear (included in our overview of Over -Areau headphones) which includes wireless and wireless options. However, he recently published the new ME05 headphones, which are completely wired and a little more affordable than the MW75.

A little strangely, the price varies depending on where you are based. In the United States, the ME05 is available in four different colors, which all have the same price at $ 199. However, prices vary in the United Kingdom and other regions, from £ 169 for Gunmetal (Gray) and Palladium (Silver) models, while Gold and White models cost £ 196. It is still relatively expensive for a set of wired headphones, but the elegant design of M&D transports, as well as the supply of excellent sound quality for people who prefer a traditional wired design to compromises of Bluetooth and wireless audio. And, as M&D indicates on its website, the wired design also means that it is “one thing less to charge”.

The ME05 was initially launched in 2015, but M&D decided that it needed a little overhaul in order to update it with the latest audio technologies, such as the use of USB-C for wired audio. The external design has not changed much, the main body of each headset still in brass, which is both intelligent and robust, and also helps reduce the distortion that could affect sound quality. Inside the headphones are 8 mm drivers in “ bio-cellulose ''-a slim and light material which is similar to paper, but which is produced as under-products of the growth of bacteria in a laboratory (which seems slightly coarse, but the light material is widely used in the headphones and children's holes because it offers very good sound quality that is both high and low).

I have always preferred the wired headphones, but a drawback is that cables can sometimes turn into an irritating spaghetti disorder. Fortunately, however, the me05 cable is made of thick rubber “ without tangle '' which allows you to pick up the headphones and plug them quickly without spending 10 minutes to disentangle the cable first.

The original Me05 of 2015 has just had a standard 3.5 mm headset connector, but Apple killed the 3.5 mm connector with the iPhone 7 in 2016, so the cable provided with this new model includes both a 3.5 mm connector and a USB-C adapter for the latest iPhones and iPads and other mobile devices. There is also a good set of accessories included, with a canvas with a pocket, five sets of silicone rubber rods in different sizes and two sets of foam ear mousse. There is no Lightning adapter, however, therefore the owners of older iPads and iPads will have to provide their own adapter (the own Apple lightning adapter has been interrupted in the United States, unfortunately, although it always seems to be on sale in the United Kingdom and other regions).

The sound quality is excellent because I broadcast the high resolution version of Sing By Apple Music Sturgill Simpson. The track is an enamelled mixture of rock guitars, EDM keyboards and Twang Country of Simpson, but the Me05 perfectly balances the dense sound even at full volume. The wired headphones often seem to have a little more power than Bluetooth, and there is a real head energy on the grinding guitar, while the dance keyboards fly in the air like fireworks. The ME05 always manages to choose lighter details, including precise and checking percussion that advances the song, and the bass decreases towards the end lands like a punch in the intestine. This strong bass works well for dance tracks too, and deep electronic bass on Evil By Billie Eilish has a tense pace and firm to resist.

The ME05 is also comfortable with conventional sounds. It shows the lightest touch for a delicate harp that opens Max Richter SarajevoBut the entrance to the Soprano Sarah Leonard crosses with perceiving clarity and emotional power. The martial breath of the horns brings a disturbing mood to the room, like a storm coming in the opposite direction, then the Me05 unleashes the storm while the full BBC Philharmonic broke out in a powerful whirlwind of strings. The only lacking thing is the management of the active noise pipe (ANC), which could be a problem for certain users.

Should you buy the Master & Dynamic ME05?

If you prefer the convenience of wireless headphones, the old -fashioned cable design of ME05 will probably not suit you. And, of course, the lack of noise pipe can be a break for travelers who need a good ANC. But people who prefer wired headphones or headphones to listen to high resolution music find that the ME05 provides high quality sound at a competitive price.
