Having a mobile with a 90 or 120 Hz screen is becoming more and more common and not only in high-end smartphones, since many mid-range and even budget mobiles are starting to add it. However, if you have a mobile that does not have this functionit will be good for you to know that there are other ways to make the screen work smoothly.
In its time we have already told you how the Pixel 6a hides the possibility of configuring the screen at 90 Hz and although in other mobiles it is not possible to configure more refresh than the screen allow, they exist a trick that optimizes travel
Speeding up animations creates a very similar effect
We would like to point out that if a screen does not have the ability to refresh its content at 90 or 120 Hz, a miracle will not work that allows it. However, speeding up animations helps create a very similar smooth experience. This is one of the developer settings.
Therefore, the first step is to enable Developer Settings. If you don’t remember how to do it, just open the normal mobile settings and go to the section of Device Information there press seven times in a row (and quickly) where it says “Build number”. After that, Developer Options will have been enabled.
These options are in an additional section of the settings, although if they do not appear there, it is possible that they have been inserted into the section System. By already entering these options, you must locate the “Drawing” section and change the following options:
- window animation scale
- Transition-animation scale
- Artist Duration Scale
These options are those that refer to the system’s own animations when we leave or enter an application, when we move through the application drawer and even when we open menus. To give a greater feeling of fluidity, it is necessary to accelerate them and for that just set them to 0.5x
I have to say that you can also disable them, but the effect is less “pretty”, because it gives the impression of being too artificial, even if out of curiosity you can try it. Also, if you set it to 10x it will be fun, but only for a while, as it will slow down every animation a lot.
Leaving the three options at the aforementioned value of 0.5x is already more than enough for you, without needing to have 120 Hz, to notice your much smoother system. It is not the same and in video games with high graphic demands you will continue to lack that fluidity worthy of high refresh rates, but at least you will notice that the scrolling of your mobile is much lighter.
