Until three years ago, Android did not have native solution with which to compare to the competition’s AirDrop, a file transfer tool. To this end, Nearby Share has arrived, although other manufacturers like Samsung have created proprietary alternatives such as Quick Share.
Both are very well implemented, but as with some applications, duplicity is not the best for user experience. This seems to be what both companies were thinking, because as we read in Android Authority, they could soon merge.
Goodbye nearby sharing. Quick Share Greetings
It’s been a year of changes for the protocol file transfer for Android, Near Share, which received an exclusive folder, arrived on Windows (which makes it easier to send files between the mobile phone and the PC), while improving its functionality, now working even with the screen off.
Although it appears that this useful transfer method will soon change its name to unify with Samsung Quick Share. It will keep the name given to it by the Korean manufacturer, perhaps because it arrived before Google’s solution. Thus, Galaxy users will forget to choose one of the two options currently available, thus becoming a “universal” tool for all Android phones (equipping Google services).
was a well known developer Yes leak which saw this name change, notably in the new version of Google Play services. In this there are clear things and many clues that Google could change the name of Nearby Share to Quick Share.
💦It seems that Google has renamed Nearby Share to… Quick Share, which is also the name of Samsung’s file sharing solution? uhhhhh
Today I received a GMS update to version 23.50.13 and, shortly after, the notification in the screenshot above. The update as well as… pic.tw itter.com/RkobYEMIw4

A picture is worth a thousand words, and as we can see in Kamila’s post, a notification will tell us that “Nearby Share is now Quick Share”, and will also give us a few more details: “look for the new name and new icon to share with nearby devices. This new name will also appear in the Android quick settingsand obviously in the function interface.
The icon changes, appearing in notifications and in the quick settings button, although we can see it in more detail in the same post that the user shared on X (former Twitter). Curious that the new name corresponds to that of the Samsung service, which would indicate the relationship between the two companies.
If this were the case, it would indicate that Samsung implemented the Near protocol in its service, or that the opposite happened: that Google included Quick Share in its Nearby Share. Regardless, this is good news for users of a terminal from the Korean manufacturer, who will see less duplication in the system functions.
All this information comes from the aforementioned leak, without us having more details on the work in progress nor on a official announcement this gives clues about collaboration. However, this brand change seems to leave no doubt. It wouldn’t make much sense for the Galaxy to have two transfer methods with the same name.
