How likely are users to upgrade their new iPhone’s storage? New report reflects interesting numbers on purchasing behavior
An interesting new report from CIRP analyzes the behavior of iPhone buyers regarding the storage they choose. It’s no secret Apple increases the price of its iPhone if a user chooses more storageAdditionally, in recent years the options have been increased significantly to 1TB and in Pro Max models which start at 256GB. The report concludes that almost half of buyers choose to upgrade their device’s storage., that is, they choose better storage than their previous iPhone. Would you do the same thing with your next iPhone purchase?
Updating an iPhone’s storage varies by model
They recently announced that the iPhone 15 line was not positioned very well in terms of sales compared to its predecessor. One of these reasons could be related to the same high-end models that can last longer. Regarding storage, CIRP comments that storage choice varies depending on model. For example, iPhone 15 buyers were more likely to upgrade storage than other users who purchased an older, cheaper iPhone.
More than half of iPhone 15 buyers upgrade storage, compared to less than 40% of year-old iPhone 14 models and just over 30% of iPhone 13 and 12 buyers.
This is perhaps a logical trend given that Former iPhone buyers are more price conscious and therefore won’t spend more money on additional storage. Users who buy the latest iPhones agree to pay “a little more” for storage.
The trend remains almost intact on Pro and non-Pro iPhones
There may be a difference when talking about the division between Pro and non-Pro models but the trend follows the same line.. He 54% of users who buy iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max choose significantly higher storage more than 36% of iPhone 15 and 15 Plus users.
As we mentioned at the beginning, Apple already has a minimum capacity of 256 GB in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. iPhone 15 Pro users have the decision to choose 128 GB or upgrade to 256 GB. Two points: Some users who go for the best iPhone may not consider the details of base storage or also choose that iPhone for the highest base capacity.
It is difficult to assess these trends because Apple has never revealed the behavior of its consumers. To make a small announcement, Apple revealed during its latest “Let Loose” event that the MacBook Air is the world’s best-selling laptop in both 13- and 15-inch sizes. How many users are there? Thanks to analysis and study firms like CIRP, it is possible to get a little closer to the reality of the figures that Apple boasts so much about.
