Apple has released a new firmware update for the AirPods, the version 4E71 is available now and can be installed on AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. All AirPods that Apple currently sells.
We do not know what new features this version introduces, because Apple does not offer us information about improvements, nor an easy way to update the AirPods. But what we do know is that you can already download it.
Check your AirPods firmware and “force” update
As you know then, updating AirPods is somewhat different from other Apple devices. We don’t have the classic update window to download new software, it’s something that happens without our noticingbackground.
To check if your AirPods have been updated, simply connect your AirPods to an iPhone or iPad and go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the “i” that appears next to the name of your AirPods. You will be able to see your AirPods information, which includes the firmware version they have installed.
AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max have all been updated to the same firmware version: 4E71. If this version does not appear in your AirPods information, the AirPods will need to be updated, and for that you need to follow these steps:
- With AirPods inside the charging case, charge them using the Lightning cable or wireless charger.
- AirPods must be connected to your iPhone or iPad.
- Your iPhone or iPad must have an internet connection.
- After a while, we don’t know exactly how long, the AirPods will update to the latest version.
- If the devices have 100% battery, it is easier for them to update.
with this update Apple insists on unified versionsBefore, each AirPod model had its own firmware version, and for two versions now they have the same.
