Apple Intelligence
This is the big news of iOS 18.1, in fact, This is the main new feature of iOS 18but it was delayed until this update. It is true that Apple Intelligence, for the moment, will be limited to the United States and the English language, which will make its launch more staggered. Apple has confirmed the languages in which Apple Intelligence will soon be available, and we hope it won’t take long for it to reach all users.
Although Apple Intelligence arrives with iOS 18.1, Some features will remain unavailable and that they will only arrive in the next update. Here are all the Apple Intelligence features we’ll see in iOS 18.1:
- writing tools– This feature will allow you to rewrite, correct and summarize text almost anywhere you can type, including Mail, NotAs, Pages and third-party apps.
- New features for Siri:
- New design with a bright light that surrounds the edge of the screen when Siri is active.
- Ability to switch between text and voice to give instructions to Siri.
- Siri can now offer users on-device assistance and answer thousands of questions about how to do something on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
- Siri now understands you better even if you are confused with certain words, and is also able to maintain context from one query to the next.
- New features for Mail:
- A new section at the top of the inbox shows the most urgent emails, like an invitation to dinner that day or a boarding pass.
- In your inbox, instead of previewing the first few lines of each email, you can see summaries without opening the message.
- Smart Reply provides guidance for rapid response and will identify questions in an email to ensure all responses are answered.
- Reduce interruptions– A new approach that only displays notifications that may need immediate attention, such as a message about an early daycare pick-up.
- New features for photos:
- Natural language can be used to search for specific photos, such as “Maya skating in a tie-dye shirt” or “Katie with stickers on her face.”
- Video Search adds the ability to search for specific moments in clips so users can jump directly to the relevant moment.
- Memories: Users can create the story they want to see by simply writing a description. Through understanding language and images, Apple Intelligence will choose the best photos and videos based on description, create a story with chapters based on themes identified in the photos, and organize them into a movie with its own narrative arc.
- Clean: this function will allow you to remove elements from photos so that they look the way we want, such as removing a person who appears in the background.
- Transcriptions– In Notes and other apps, you can record audio and get a transcription as well as a summary of that transcription with the most relevant details.
Apple Intelligence will only be compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. And also with iPads or Macs with an M series chip.
What’s new in Control Center
iOS 18 Control Center has completely changed and now it is much more customizable, in addition to having a new design. And with iOS 18.1 Apple has decided to improve it with some very interesting new features:
- Apple added new buttons: Wi-Fi, VPN, Satellite, AirDrop, Measurements and Level.
- A new button has also been added to reset Control Center to the default layout. This can be found in Settings > Control Center.
- Shortcuts can now open the Control Center, offering multiple possibilities.
NFC in third-party apps
Apple ha Open iPhone NFC to third-party apps in iOS 18.1meaning anyone can launch their own contactless payment app for iPhone as an alternative to Apple Pay. But NFC is not only used for payments, developers will now be able to access functions like these without depending on the options offered by Apple:

Improvements to the iPhone Mirroring app
The iPhone Mirroring app available on macOS Sequoia allows us to view the iPhone on our Mac and control it from here. And with the arrival of iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1, this is now the case. adds drag and drop functionality. You can send documents, photos and any other files simply by dragging it across the iPhone screen. This application is currently not available in Europe.
Other news
- Apple Music– Added a new option to share songs directly on TikTok. So if you are a fan of this social network, it is now more integrated into Apple’s music platform.
- Sleep apnea detection– This update adds this feature compatible with Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Series 10.
- Camera control: The new camera control button on iPhone 16 adds functions, if you hold down the camera control button with a light press, you will now see a bar next to the settings options. You can also switch to the front camera, in addition to switching between rear cameras.
- Notifications: If you receive multiple notifications from an app and they are grouped together on the iPhone lock screen, a number now appears next to the app icon telling you how many notifications you are receiving of this application.
- New Watch app icon– Removed the Apple Watch side button that was appearing.
- Microphone and camera indicators– The orange and green indicators displayed on Dynamic Island have a new animation that disappears when you stop using the microphone and camera.
iOS 18.1 is released
While this isn’t an official confirmation from Apple, it feels like it is. Mark Gurman has leaked the release date of iOS 18.1 and it makes a lot of sense given how its development is going. This would be the chosen date:
- iOS 18 release date: October 28.
