The head of Nintendo has confirmed the bad news.
Nintendo director and designer Shigeru Miyamoto took part in an interview with Variety and confirmed that the company will no longer develop Super Mario games for the iPhone. Nintendo celebrates the return to the big screen of the most popular mustachioed plumber in video games with the production “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and they no longer want to develop games for smartphones.
We don’t know if the decision was made because Super Mario’s journeys to iOS and Android haven’t been as profitable as Nintendo would like financially or if they just don’t have enough resources to develop games. on all platforms. What we know for sure is that, unfortunately, Mario will not return to the iPhone.

“Mobile apps will not be the main avenue for future Mario games.”
Shigeru thinks that’s a lot harder to develop a good game with intuitive controls on a touchscreen like a smartphone.
“The intuitiveness of the controls is part of the gaming experience. When we explored the possibility of creating Mario games for mobile phones, it was very difficult to determine what type of game it would be.”
Bad news for Nintendo fans, who will have to make do with the Super Mario games already present and with titles from other platforms such as Nintendo Switch.
Bad news never comes alone, Shigeru Miyamoto’s statements come a few months after Rovio announced that it would withdraw its classic Angry Birds on iOS and Android.
With ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ hitting theaters, Nintendo fans will be eager to see what will be the next super mario game land on Nintendo’s video consoles after the Bowser’s Fury expansion in 2021. Unfortunately, however, the title won’t be available on iOS or Android.
