In any smartphone sold in Europe, the part with the shortest expiration date is the battery. This component is the which wears out faster, and one of the main reasons why someone would want to change their mobile; and yet, users know very little about the battery of their mobile.
The big flaw with modern batteries is that, simply because of how they work, they get worse with use. In each charge and discharge cycle the battery loses some capacity, something that is not noticeable at first but becomes a real problem over time; after a few years, the battery may have lost 20-30% of its capacity, which is noticeable not only in the duration, but also in the general performance, since the mobile cannot use the “loss” parts.
Before, when the industry was constantly making leaps and bounds and most people were switching cellphones at least once a year, it was not noticeable; But now that the jumps are narrowing and cell phone sales have plummeted, battery life has become one of the top concerns for users.
Battery Health on Android
The good news is that these users will soon have tools to cbattery health devil on Android and improve its duration. As Mishall Rahman discovered, Google has implemented access to this data, which can be accessed by apps and through Android 14’s settings. This will be done through a new API, a set of instructions used when application development.
This API will be able to obtain data previously out of reach of applications, such as the number of charge cycles the battery has passed, the date of manufacture and first use of the battery, and the state of the charge if it is in progress. Perhaps the most important data will be the battery health, which will indicate the remaining capacity and whether it can be considered “healthy”.
I recently bought a used Pixel 7 Pro and found it unfortunate that Google’s battery health feature wasn’t released.
It would be nice to see how many charge cycles it has had or the estimated % of its original capacity. Fortunately, Google made this possible in Android 14! 🧵 pic.twitter.com/KXGtLwhJtU

Android 14 beta users can already access this data using an app called Batt; but it is hoped that the final version of the system that will arrive at the end of the summer will include a method to display this information, as in the battery device configuration. Apps should also appear on the Play Store that can use this data to analyze battery usage and show tips for improving battery life.
In fact, Google is a little behind. Since iOS 12, Apple has allowed iPhone users to access a battery status feature, which indicates the maximum capacity you have left; although other features, such as optimized charging, are already available on Android.
