This update re-enables the functionality of frequent faces on previous Pixels after being disabled earlier this year. It was just May when the Mountain View guys turned it off without telling anyone.
At first glance, this feature was removed due to a bug and supports identify people’s faces which we frequently capture with Pixel cameras.
In fact, this function is responsible for recommending the best photos and is used in conjunction with the Real Tone function of the Pixels in order to better capture the real skin color of somebody.
A detail that Google did not want to miss concerns the data of the faces that are taken from these photos and that is that they are not uploaded to the servers, but are stored in the same memory of the phone.
Apart from recovering this function, in version 8.7 of Google Camera the functionality of double tap the viewer to switch between 1x and 2x zoom. This happens to be present again in the Pixel 4 as in the Pixel 4a, Pixel 5 and Pixel 6. Another detail is the return of the long press on the icon which displays the last photo to choose if it remains in the default folder or it is placed in the private folder.
