It’s already evident that Wear OS has improved a lot over the past couple of years, with new versions of the system implementing improvements such as compatibility with Android apps and greater integration with the Google platform. The idea of wearing a watch with WhatsApp is no longer a dream, it’s a reality.
However, Wear OS still has a long way to go to match the best systems for wearable devices; and one of the most criticized factors is undoubtedly battery consumption. Being an Android-based system, whose primary focus was mobile phones, goes against this.
We’ve already seen some Wear OS watches that achieve good battery life, but perhaps the most interesting bet is the TicWatch Pro 5 launched late last year; Now comes a durable version that brings notable improvements in many aspects.
The most durable Wear OS watch
New TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro This is a robust version of the Pro 5 launched a few months ago, and therefore shares many of its technical characteristics. It is based on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor, accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The screen is also the same size of 1.43 inches with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. It comes standard with Wear OS 3.5, although manufacturer Mobvoi has promised updates for its entire range.
The big difference compared to the basic model is the higher level of protection and the materials used. The screen is protected by sapphire crystal
It is compatible with a variety of satellite systems, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and Beidou, to obtain our position wherever we are. And for the more adventurous, it has Integrated compass and barometers.
An advantage over the basic model lies in the battery, which now reaches up to 90 hours of use, about four days in a row. Something really rare in the sector, but which has an explanation.
TicWatch’s ‘trick’ to improve Wear OS battery is available a dual screen system. When we want to use the applications and smart functions of Wear OS, we have an AMOLED screen like that of any other modern watch; but the rest of the time this screen is disabled and an Ultra-Low Power (ULP) screen is enabled. Although it is monochrome, it is enough to display basic information like time, steps or heart rate.
The watch automatically switches to the low-power screen when we have finished using the conventional screen; although we can also force the use of this monochrome screen, in what Mobvoi calls An “essential mode” that can last up to 45 daysan impossible figure for most Wear OS watches.
The TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro is now available in Europe at a price of 359.99 dollars.
