The earth is no longer habitable. Only ten thousand humans remain, surviving in massive bunkers and only risking their integrity every time it’s time to step outside to change the breathing filters. An absorbing premise that lands on Apple TV+ and aspires to be one of this year’s big premieres.
Fans of ‘Dune’ were captivated by the brutalist architecture, overwhelming soundtrack and unique staging. But above all thanks to a varied cast that has given itself to make Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious dream come true. One of those responsible is Sweden’s Rebecca Ferguson, Lady Jessica in ‘Dune’ and matriarch of House Atreideswho now becomes the absolute protagonist of ‘Silo’, the series that also has actors of the stature of Tim Robbins, David Oyelowo or Rashida Jones.
‘Silo’ will consist of 10 episodes. The first opens May 5, 2023, and every Friday we’ll have access to a new chapter in this adaptation of Hugh Howey’s trilogy of dystopian novels.
A silo to survive
Writer Hugh Howey rose to fame for ‘Mirage’, a self-published short story on Amazon. Over the years, the author continued to flesh out his original work with sequels and apocryphal tales and established himself as one of Now Yok Times best-selling authors for several years. Currently, the film rights to “Silo” are owned by 20th Century Fox.
As for the series in question, the screenwriter and main showrunner is none other than Graham Yost (‘Band of Brothers’, ‘Justified’) and presents the nominee for Oscar Morten Tyldum (“Defending Jacob”, “The Imitation Game”) as director of the first three episodes.
Mystery, drama and science fiction will be intertwined in this futuristic epic that starts from the following point: the last ten thousand inhabitants of the Earth live piled up more than a kilometer deep“protected from the toxic and deadly outside world. No one knows when or why the silo was built, and anyone who tries to find out faces dire consequences. Juliette, an engineer seeking answers to the murder of a loved one finds himself trapped in a much deeper mystery than he could have imagined, as the motto of the original novel, also titled Silo, goes: “If the lies don’t kill you, the truth will” .
