Battery life continues to be one of the biggest concerns for mobile users, but most brands are doing little to nothing about it; they’re not installing larger capacity batteries or using faster charging.
It is still easy to find “cutting-edge” cell phones for more than 1,000 dollars with a charge that does not exceed 40 W; if we want more, we must buy a cell phone from a Chinese brand, such as Xiaomi, OPPO or the one that is now on the table, realme.
The technology presented today is called Supersonic chargeand it should be included in future high-end models of realme; although for the moment, no specific model has been announced. SuperSonic Charge represents another important step forward in wired charging for smartphones, reaching a brutal figure: 320W.
With this power, it is possible to charge a modern smartphone in less than five minutes. Specifically, during the demonstration, realme managed to charge a mobile with a 4,420mAh battery in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds. In other words, we can leave our phone charging while we get dressed and ready and have it fully charged when we’re done.
Perhaps more impressive is that we can recharge 26% battery just by having the mobile connected for a minute; so we can have the mobile ready to make calls without having to wait for practically anything. Finally, the company claims to be able to recharge the battery to 50% in less than 2 minutes.
Achieving such numbers was not simple, nor as easy as simply increasing the power; if it had been just that, everyone would have done it already. To achieve this power safely and in such a small format, realme had to develop innovations that were not present on the market until now.
One of these innovations is the first foldable batterywith a four-cell charge that allows for four times faster charging. This also allows for higher capacity and better heat dissipation. Realme also had to develop the first air-insulated voltage transformer for greater safety when charging.
But perhaps the most surprising thing is that 320W charger that will enable this fast charging is relatively small. It is called Pocket Cannon, because it is a “miniature cannon” with an energy density of 3.3 W/cm3; Thanks to this, it is actually similar in size to Realme’s 240 W charger.
In addition to SuperSonic Charge, the charger is compatible with the SuperVOOC technology of current realme, OPPO and OnePlus mobile phones; it is also compatible with UFCS, a specification created by OPPO, Xiaomi, Vivo and Huawei which will allow the use of 320 W in mobile phones of compatible brands.
Realme has yet to announce the launch date of the first mobile phone compatible with SuperSonic Charge, although it is expected to be the next model in the GT series. It could also be used in its “sister” brands, OPPO and OnePlus.
