AirTag has become the safety tool car owners trust!
Since its first days on the market, Apple AirTag has become an essential accessory for car owners. Most use it as a preventative measure to speed up searches in the event of theft. A situation that is increasingly common these days and that the Apple locator already has experience solving
According to an NBC News publication, an AirTag user, identified as Philip Obando said he woke up and left his house to find his BMW missing.
A man relied on AirTag and a video camera to recover his BMW
By checking the location shown by the AirTag in the Find My app and reviewing the camera video, the car owner knew everything that had happened since the theft.. The thief had swapped license plates, stopped at a car wash and planned to steal another car. Although it also helped that the thief left his wallet in the car.
With all the evidence in hand, or rather on the iPhone, Obando preferred to confront the criminal without the intervention of the authoritiesevading the most logical recommendation in this type of situation.
According to the victim’s statements to NBC News, everything was easier than expected:
My wife says, “There’s the car!” The person is pumping gas. She said, ‘Get out of the car and go get him,’ and I jumped out of the car,” Obando said.
Obando confronted the man as his wife stopped her car at the gas station.
“I had an extra control, I clicked it, the car beeped and that’s when the guy said ‘Oh, oh man…’ and ran away,” did he declare.
The accuracy of both devices worked on this occasion, and although Authorities in several cities have recommended the use of AirTag to speed up the recovery of cars in the event of theft, they do not suggest taking action on your own. Especially, considering a history of similar events in which criminals did not hesitate to resort to violence to defend themselves when discovered.
