The Redmi brand is not usually associated with high-end mobiles, since most of its devices are aimed at the mid-range and even the low-end. But the borders between the different Xiaomi brands are not fixed, and it is always possible that they “step on each other”.

This is what seems to be happening with the Redmi K50 Extreme Edition, also known as Redmi K50 Ultra (this is the name with which it will probably arrive in Europe). We are facing a mobile that could perfectly be included in the Xiaomi 12 range, and we do not say it by saying.

Like a Xiaomi 12 Pro
As you can see from the component list, this device is closer to the Xiaomi 12 Pro than any Redmi, and that’s no coincidence. A simple look at the mobile tells us that it really is a modified Xiaomi 12, and details such as the design of the camera array are so obvious that they are not even worth mentioning.
But that has always been Redmi’s philosophy: wait a little after each Xiaomi launch, and take the opportunity to launch a new, now cheaper mobile. We’ve seen it countless times, and this one is no exception. However, there are some surprises that indicate that this mobile is more than just a “rehash” from Xiaomi; in fact, this Redmi is superior to the Xiaomi 12 Pro in some respects.
For example, in the processor. Instead of using the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from the Xiaomi 12 Pro, this model has the upgraded version, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Although the performance differences are not dramatic, the improved efficiency should be noticeable.
Another element in which the Redmi surpasses its “older brother” is in the battery, which in this case is 5000 mAh, very large for this size of mobile. The best thing is that it comes with one of the great advances presented by Xiaomi, the 120W fast charge, one of the fastest on the market.
With the Mercedes F1 version
On the other hand, on other aspects the Redmi does not necessarily seem better than the Xiaomi. The cameras will be a big unknown, as the excellent 50MP triple camera setup disappears in favor of a large 108MP sensor from Samsung, accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle camera and only 2MP macro.
The screen will be 6.67 inches, based on OLED technology, and should stand out for the color processing, being able to display 12-bit color depth, which is really rare in the industry.
To show off all this power, the Redmi K50 Extreme Edition will be available with a special decoration inspired by the Mercedes Formula 1 team, with the characteristic mixture of grey, black and greenish blue of its cars, as well as in more typical colors such as than like blue. The price of the basic version, with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, will be 2,999 yuan, or around 430 dollars, but it can reach 4,199 yuan (602 dollars) for the Mercedes version with 12 GB and 512 Go.
