Competition is the healthiest thing you can have as a product. I’ve said it before with the Mac mini, and now I’m happy to see another cool move from Samsung. The company announced a new monitor called Viewfinity S9and it’s a very clear direct rival to the Apple Studio Display.
Curiously, Samsung already had a monitor it was looking to convince Apple users, the Smart Monitor M8, which is a very attractive alternative for those who don’t want to spend what a Studio Display costs. But the South Korean manufacturer wants to get closer to Apple’s solution.
For now, in the absence of a price, he promises
This Viewfinity S9 has a design and aluminum finishes so close to the Studio Display that it borders on plagiarism, but let’s focus on its functionalities beyond this balance sheet: we are facing a 27-inch 5K IPS panel
At the port level, we have USB-C connections (including one compatible with Thunderbolt 4), DisplayPort and HDMI. Additionally, its USB-C ports are capable of charging a laptop at 96W. More than enough for the most demanding 16-inch MacBook Pro. And as in the case of the Smart Monitor M8, we have the Tizen operating system and a removable webcam capable of offering a 4K image.
It will definitely be a monitor to consider when they give more details about it at CES 2023. Most importantly, the price, which should be what makes anyone looking for a monitor consider the Viewfinity S9 as an option. CES 2023 starts this Thursday, so we won’t have to wait too long.
