One UI 6 was good news for all Samsung users who already have the app. Besides improving performance, it allows more customization options and has a more minimalist design to perform actions in fewer steps.
However, the improvements do not stop with One UI 6. And with version 6.1 a new battery protection mode will arrive, but We explain how to activate these options in One UI 6.
More control over the charging of our Samsung
Samsung continues to adhere to the One UI 6 update schedule. Many models have already been updated to the latest version of the system and the list will grow over the coming weeks.
Now the current situation in the Samsung universe is already looking at the presentation of the Galaxy S24, the new models that will debut in a few weeks and which They should arrive with One UI 6.1
This new version will have several improvements that will also benefit the rest of the family, but it seems that there is one that we can try in advance. And that’s it, With One UI 6.1, a new battery protection feature will arrive with three new modes:
- Basic – This is a mode that will charge up to 100% and, if the charger stays plugged in, it will stop charging once it reaches the maximum. When the battery goes down to 95%, if it stays plugged in, it will automatically recharge.
- Adaptive – This mode pauses charging at 80% when we sleep and resumes it up to 100% before we get up. This is something we’ve seen on other phones and Samsung says the time will be measured based on usage patterns (although what it will probably do is access the alarm clock if we configured to know what time we will wake up).
- Maximum protection – With this, the charge is up to 80% maximum and will not go any further. In fact, when the charge drops below 80%, it will charge again to reach this new maximum. This is the most aggressive setting, but also the one that pampers the drums the most.
Okay, that said, it looks like we’ll have to wait until One UI 6.1 officially hits our devices to try it out, but They discovered how to activate the option without waiting.
As we see in Sammobile, the solution is to download the Activity Launcher application -link to the Play Store-. It is not a launcher like those we are used to, but rather a manager of dozens of status options for our device. One of them, “BatteryProtectionActivity”, is the one that allows us to activate new charging states of the device.
When you open it, the language will be that of your device, so I recommend you go to the config nut and change it to English. I tried to start the process with the app configured in Spanish and it didn’t work for me. To do this you need to go to the settings nut at the top right and change the language.
Once done, use the search engine to navigate to “BatteryProtection” and only one option will appear, so there is no loss. Click and… there will be the new One UI 6.1 battery charging modes, but on a Samsung with One UI 6.0.
I achieved this on a Galaxy S23 without any kind of beta or anything like that, but since it’s something in development, you may not be able to enable it on your device.
