With a major update underway, where Samsung brings One UI 6.1 and Galaxy AI to its most important phones of 2023, there is another family that targets artificial intelligence: the Samsung Galaxy S22. Without them yet being registered on the list, the business manager suggested that high-end mobile phones of 2022 would also be suitable for AI tools.
After analyzing all of this year’s Samsung Galaxy S24s and putting the phones’ AI to the test, the truth is that it doesn’t completely change the user experience; although it facilitates endless tasks, like editing photos, searching for items that appear on the phone screen, or chatting with a stranger thanks to the excellent call transcription. Now, if these tools end up in older phones, things change: Samsung keeping its phone fleet up to date is good news. At least he thinks about it.
Samsung Mobile CEO says he’s studying how to bring Galaxy AI beyond S23
Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is updated with Android 14 and One UI 6.0, as well as Samsung’s own apps and services (including Bixby Assistant). The whole family should upgrade to One UI 6.1, but this does not imply that said update includes AI tools: these largely depend on the hardware of the device. But not completely.
During the annual shareholder meeting that Samsung recently held, as we can read in SamMobile, the brand clarified the technical difficulties it faces. adapting the S24’s generative AI to phones like the Galaxy S22
In the words of TM Roh during his speech at Samsung’s annual shareholders meeting (via SamMobile):
“Galaxy AI aims for “hybrid AI” that combines cloud-based AI and on-device AI technology; which is greatly affected by hardware performance. To create local AI that takes these hardware limitations into account, a lot of effort is required. “Resources and efforts are being invested. »
TM Roh did not cite specific model names, but it is clear that he was referring to generations before the Samsung Galaxy S23, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, families already confirmed by the brand to receive One UI 6.1 with most of the tools with Artificial Intelligence for the Galaxy S24. Besides the S22, it would also make sense for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 to be in the test group to update their smart software.
We don’t know when the second batch of One UI 6.1 updates will begin; in addition to maintaining doubt whether or not Samsung will bring the Galaxy AI to the 2022 generation. Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S23s are about to upgrade to One UI 6.1 with AI.
