Vehicle operating system updates are in progress. Thus, after the last beta of version 7.6, it is now the turn of the stable version: Android Auto steps up a gear to improve phone use while driving. And with an important novelty that finally affects everyone who uses the system: smart replies to incoming messages become available.
Accessing music from the vehicle’s console is hugely convenient, but what really takes the distraction out of it is having all of Android Auto’s actions on the steering wheel controls. Android Auto already allowed us to write messages and send them without having to use either the screen or the steering wheel controls: thanks to the voice commands of Google Assistant, it was enough to ask it to transcribe what we wanted to send so that, once the contact was specified, the assistant did all the work. As we already communicated in the beta, version 7.6 allows you to reply directly to messages with one of the suggestions that Google Assistant will show. The operation is similar to what Android already offers on phones: depending on the context of the message, the system will offer consistent responses so that a simple touch is enough to convey what is desired. This way you don’t have to fight with the assistant using your voice or get distracted.
Smart answers are landing for everyone with Android Auto 7.6, but it will take a while to get going: Google will distribute the novelty as and when (It still does not appear to us, it is surely due to an update of the Google application and / or Google Play services). To update to this version, you must complete the following process:
- Go to the Android Auto tab in the Google Play Store and click update.
- In case the update does not appear (Google distributes it), you can download the installation file from APK Mirror.
- Install the file on your phone, accept the update prompt, and you’ll have Android Auto 7.6. The APK is 100% secure.
With Android Auto 7.6, Google takes an important step in interacting with the phone from the car screen. It’s certainly a great use of the assistant’s proactive capabilities.
