This has happened to all of us at some point when activating a free trial in an app on our iPhone, forgetting to cancel it before the free period ended and receive a notification from our bank that we have been charged. If we don’t remember it, it’s usually because we haven’t used that app, so that subscription would mean a waste of money for us.
If you are not very familiar with this system, you would think that there is no way to get a refund, since in the subscription section of our account nothing is mentioned about it. However, this perception is wrong. Yes, the money can be recovered.
Get a refund on the App Store
If you find yourself in this situation, you will need to go to reportaproblem.apple.com. There you need to sign in with your Apple ID, and as soon as you do you will find all your App Store purchases and subscriptions. At the top of the page, you will see a kind of form called “how can we help you?”. When you click on it, a drop-down menu will appear where you must select “request a refund”.
Then another drop-down list will appear where you will be asked for more details. Be sure to tell the truth. You will have several options such as “I didn’t want to buy this”, “a minor made the purchase without permission”, “I didn’t want to subscribe”, or “I didn’t want to renew the subscription”. Apple manually reviews each request, so it is essential not to lie. There are no right or wrong options, so mark the one that is true without fear.
As soon as you click on next, the different applications to which you have subscribed will appear, and this will allow you to mark them (one or more) to send and have them reviewed by the specialized team of Apple. It will take approximately 48 hours to respond to your request
It’s good to get along with Apple
There are no fixed criteria established to decide which applications are accepted and which are rejected, although Personally I think it has to do with how you use the App Store. A few years ago there were no claims accepted for me, and I thought it was unnecessary, but right now they are refunding me almost instantly for any purchase or subscription, and I understand this is related to my habits at Apple lately.
The reasoning of those in Cupertino to verify the legitimacy of your request will surely be based on how good you are as a customer. If you’ve been buying the latest iPhone available for a few years, subscribe to multiple services, make purchases from the App Store relatively frequently, and rarely experience any issues, it is reasonable to believe that your request is a legitimate case where you simply forgot to cancel a free trial.
On the other hand, if you don’t buy a lot, don’t subscribe to anything, always ask for refunds, and it’s not like you’re the easiest customer, your request could be considered fraudulent. It’s strange, and maybe even unfair, I don’t deny it, but in my opinion it is the only way for Apple to check how much it should reimburse yougiven that the right of withdrawal does not apply to purchases of this type of goods.
