After numerous leaks which warned us in advance of the redesign, Google launched a few months ago the new interface of one of its most popular applications: the weather. Beyond adapting to the lines of Material You, the new Google Time showed more and better organized information.
As expected, this redesign was first applied to the Pixel and then landed on some Samsung Galaxy. Now it seems he has finally started to expand to more Android phones other manufacturers, even to some older models with Android 11. With an important place for the frog, of course.
Weather is updated on old cell phones
One of the main changes to the new Google Weather, beyond its Material You design, is that instead of three tabs (today, tomorrow and 10 days), we now have only one section with a carousel in which we can consult the weather forecast for the next 24 hours.
Additionally, the location search box is pill-shaped and in current forecasts Parameters such as wind speed, humidity, atmospheric pressure or UV index appear. All on cards with rounded corners. For their part, the illustrations transform into a panoramic format and the famous little frog, a little smaller, appears in new settings.
The new Google Time initially debuted on Pixel phones and, soon after, on some Samsung phones. Now, according to 9to5Google, the redesign affects more phones from different manufacturers. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, the OnePlus Open or the Honor Magic 6 RSR are some examples, but there are those who have already received it on a Nokia 4.2 with Android 11.
The deployment is carried out in the on the server side, so it’s very possible that you’ll still have to wait for Google to expand it to more phones. To check if you already have the new Google Weather design on your Android mobile, follow these steps:
- Open Discover on your mobile by swiping to the main screen.
- Click the “G” in the widget or open the browser and search for weather.
- When the weather information for your location appears, click on it and you will go to Google Weather.
Remember that by tapping on the three menu dots and pressing “Add to Home Screen“, you can directly access Google Weather as if it were an app. If the new design has arrived on your phone and you are not convinced, you can always get the old one back with the app Frog Weather, available for free on Google Play.
