In a market where all mobile phones are alike, Sony always “saves” us with its Xperia; OK, they are not mobiles for everyone, but that is precisely the idea, to cover the needs that some users have and that other mobiles do not cover.
New Xperia 1V
With the new Xperia 1 V, Sony continues in this direction. In many ways it feels like an “old” phone, keeping the selfie camera on the top edge instead of integrating it into the screen with a hole like most manufacturers do; but it’s not because Sony wants to save money, quite the contrary: it’s so that we can enjoy the incredible 4K resolution OLED screen that should leave any competitor in the sector far behind. In fact, that might be too much resolution for a 6.5-inch size but again, that’s logic that makes sense for a typical, non-professional or more demanding user.
The front and back are covered in Gorilla Glass Victus 2, as you’d expect, but even in that simple detail Sony has found a way to stand out, with a rough finish and edges designed to make it easier to grip. hand, unlike other leading mobiles which slide easily.
And you don’t want this phone to drop, because that would be like dropping a professional camera. Photography and video are top priorities for Sony, with a new 52MP sensor with an f/1.9 lens 70% larger than the previous generation camera.
A sensor that takes pictures with a 4.3:3 aspect ratio, something that may seem odd to you because it is; a 4:3 ratio is generally used, with squarer photos. Sony justifies this odd change by saying that it’s a midpoint between 4:3 and 16:9 that’s used more for recording video; Therefore, whether recording videos or taking photos, the image is cropped (in fact, photos are 48MP), but Sony believes this is the optimal solution for using both formats .
This is important because Sony markets the Xperia 1 V as a mobile capable of recording cinematic videos, thanks to S-Cinetone technology which does not require post-production. To achieve this, the Japanese brand has greatly improved the cooling of the components, a weak point of the Xperia 1 IV launched last year. Now, he claims that the heat dissipation volume has been increased by 60% thanks to the new heatsink, while power consumption is reduced by 20% when using the camera. All of this should make it a more convenient alternative to recording videos or even movies on our own.
For the rest, it is still a high-end mobile, based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2; but it does not follow the fashions of other manufacturers. For example, this mobile still retains the traditional 3.5mm audio jack output, which has already been removed even on low-end mobiles. We also have a microSD slot up to 1TB, something necessary if we are going to record video.
In short, the Sony Xperia 1 V is not a mobile for everyone, as its price of 1,399 dollars shows, but that is the goal.
