WebXR is the new standard for making accessible Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented reality (AR) via the web. Thanks to this standard, we can enjoy the animals and 3D objects in Google search, but it is not the only thing that this technology allows us to do.
The potential of WebXR
WebXR experiences
Google presented four WebXR experiences, although only three are available to date. An experiment with Google Photos will soon be released. In the following video we can see the following experiments in operation:
- Floom: an experience that allows us create a tunnel through the earth in augmented reality to see what is on the other side of the earth.
- Sodar: this experience concerns a tool that helps us keep a social distance
- Up to the task: it is a tool that allows us to allows you to measure the height, width and length of objects.
- Picturescape: soon we can see our photos from Google Photos in augmented reality while we walk.
To test these experiments, simply access the WebXR Experiments site from a compatible mobile device and a compatible browser. Most web browsers are compatible with WebXR.
