Do you have a Google Pixel and were you waiting for it June update to know if any news was coming? A little late, but we finally have it here: Google has just released this month’s news package. Both for mobile phones and for the Google Pixel Watch.
We are still immersed in the maelstrom of the Apple keynote with its new features inspired by Android, we also have echoes of the previous Google I/O and its enormous number of changes in terms of AI. Both Google and Apple have implemented the Artificial intelligence much of his news. And not just for key system releases, but also for incremental releases. What we have in our hands is a good sample.
Gemini Nano finally arrives on the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a
The June update for Google devices brings a good amount of new features across the board; which affect both Pixel software and hardware. As the flagship of the update, device-level AI finally reaches the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8a. That’s right, Gemini Nano expands beyond the Google Pixel 8 Pro, as Google itself warned.
Once owners of the aforementioned Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a update, they will have reduced AI and the ability to run on the phone itself. Currently, it hasn’t gained many functions, although it is expected that Google will eventually integrate the tool deeper into Android System Intelligence. For example, to give smarter answers, analyze texts or summarize voice recordings, all without connecting to Google servers.
In addition to the big news of the Google Pixel 8, the June incremental update brings the following new features:
- Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro can now use USB C to send video to a display. Google enables Display Port functionality after the update (it was previously in beta).
- Improvements to automatic shots with HDR+. Google will save the best photo taken with high dynamic range shots.
- Check for spam numbers in the phone app. Did they call you and you didn’t recognize the contact? Now you can easily search the number to find out if it is spam.
- Choose the lens in the camera app. This improvement concerns the Google Pixel 7 Pro, Google Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel Fold.
- Crash detection on the Pixel Watch. Google smartwatch gets accident detection in emergency options. Compatible with both models.
- Google Home app improvements. Watches take control of devices connected to the Google account and mobile phones benefit from a new widget for quick access to home automation.
- The Pixel tablet receives more comprehensive home automation notifications when docked.
The update starts rolling out from today and will gradually reach all compatible Google Pixels. It is valid for mobile phones above Pixel 6, both for Pixel watches and for the Pixel tablet.
